LuxeBook Fab 40

Tara Pandala Tara’s interest in architecture began as a young girl when she used to visit her architect father, Professor Eugene Pandala’s office. She recalls that she grew up with T-squares and butter sheets, and that her favourite pastime was to assist the junior architects. After graduating in B.Arch from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, Kerala, in 2011, Tara did her Master’s in Urban Design from CEPT University, Ahmedabad. “CEPT gave me an opportunity to study urban patterns… and I developed an urge to learn more about creating spaces and building on a bigger scale in an attractive and sustainable way,” she recalls. “I learnt the relevance of the unbuilt spaces, and how they are shaped by the built environment.” Impacted by the work of Geoffrey Bawa and Antoni Gaudi, she says about the latter, “His mesmerising forms and how he played with curves has been an inspiration.” When a professor from her undergraduate school compared her father to Gaudi, Tara had an epiphany. “How lucky I am to have a great master who has been a source of inspiration right from my childhood!” she exclaims. While the architectural firm was founded by Professor Pandala in 1985, it was rebranded as CSBNE in 2015. Tara oversees the development of design concepts and detailing. She is also actively involved in academia, having mentored award-winning thesis students at MG University, Kerala.
