LuxeBook February 2022

A rt and creativity are often seen as luxuries for the common man, high up on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And yet, in periods of uncertainty, the true value of art and creativity is understood – a poem, a song, an artwork, a book that adds value and meaning to our existence. Visual art in particular has come a long way and morphed into every field, as both our lives and professions become more complex and integrated, thanks to the technological revolution. Art fortified with non-fungible token are here to remain. Art as an asset class finds takers in online and offline auctions. There is artistry in designing an urban escape with landscape design, there is art in turning to nature for design inspiration whether in furniture or spaces. Art is also fueled by nostalgia, for instance, nothing spells that out better than the sudden popularity of film cameras. Art is informed from the world outside, and hence the works at the Chennai Photo Biennale and the India Art Fair run a fair commentary on what’s happening with the world. Read our issue to find out how far the world of art and technology has intersected, and what it foretells about the future.
