Polo Ralph Lauren iconic shirt 50th anniversary “The Polo shirt is to Ralph Lauren what Mickey Mouse is to Disney or the Empire State Building is to New York City,” according to the book released on the iconic shirt. The game of polo dates back to the 6th century BC, but it was in the 19th century that the garment was re- introduced to the western world, and today it retains cult status. While many brands introduced the polo shirt, Ralph Lauren has become an iconic brand known for its polo shirts. “It was never about a shirt, but a way of living.” said Ralph Lauren once. Not only did the brand give an extremely luxe quotient to the wardrobe staple, but also made it a style statement. This year, the brand celebrated the 50th anniversary of the iconic shirt. To celebrate the occasion, the brand has reintroduced a published book that documents the iconic style and cultural impact of the Polo Shirt as a metaphor for the optimism and confidence that it inspired for over half a century in America and in other places. Further, a limited number of select vintage and collectible designs, seen within the pages of Ralph Lauren’s Polo Shirt book, will be made available for purchase in select stores and select regions. The Company has also opened two stores dedicated to selling the iconic product —The Ralph Lauren Polo Shirt Shop Concept Store in Berlin and Ginza. Since its debut in 1972, the polo shirt will continue to hold the same power in future and remains a Polo Ralph Lauren style icon.
