Interview: Gaurav Jain from Orange Tree on The Evolution Of Indian Homes

A decade ago, premium furniture in India meant either imported-for-show or matching modular pieces with zero mood. Today, the Indian home is a design project; it’s curated, Pinterest-boarded, lived-in, and stacked with references. Which is why Jodhpur-based Orange Tree, the homegrown brand that’s been quietly raising the bar for Indian furniture is now bringing British cult-favourite design brand Swoon to our shores. Thirty handpicked pieces that reimagine mid-century European romance with 2025 clarity, all sculptural, expressive, and deliciously character-heavy.

Following this true cross-continent design exchange, we at LuxeBook caught up with Gaurav Jain, Founder & Creative Director of Orange Tree, to talk about how this partnership happened, how Swoon is being contextualised for the Indian home, and what this moment says about where India’s premium décor is headed next.

LuxeBook: What sparked the collaboration between Orange Tree and Swoon, and how did the partnership come to life?

Gaurav Jain: This partnership goes beyond being a mere business expansion. It evolved over a long, long-term friendship and shared intentions that honour heritage, redefining it with a modern perspective relevant for today. With design philosophies that align and an emotional people-first commitment, this collaboration was just the next step for both brands to create a shared space that celebrates innovation, storytelling and timeless aesthetics.

Orange Tree’s inception is deeply rooted in the vision of bringing global design sensibilities to Indian markets, in the backdrop of sustainability and artisanal craftsmanship. Founded initially as an online platform, Orange Tree’s ethos synced completely with Swoon’s direct-to-consumer approach. Since both brands champion design integrity and aesthetics that evoke nostalgia and a deep-rooted relationship, the milestone alliance was inevitable.

LuxeBook: How are you localising Swoon’s design language for the Indian market?

Gaurav Jain: The thirty pieces curated from Swoon have been selected after meticulous contemplation, keeping in mind the immensely evolved, well-travelled and design-conscious Indian audience. Each piece in the collection has a touch of artisanal mastery, a distinctive uniqueness that evokes a sense of bold elegance and can seamlessly blend with contemporary or traditional spaces. Grounded in everyday functionality, they speak a language of beauty and timeless aesthetics that travels beyond borders and cultural barriers. Mid-century classical designs are not new to the Indian audience, and what this collaboration brings forth is more than just vintage, but a charming European narrative that makes enduring statements of modern sophistication.

LuxeBook: Both Orange Tree and Swoon have strong design DNAs. How do you see them complementing each other creatively and commercially?

Gaurav Jain: Both Orange Tree and Swoon bring distinct yet synergistic design DNAs to the table. While we root for contemporary design inspired by nature, heritage, and architectural forms, craftsmanship and a mix of natural materials, Swoon is known for its modern-vintage geometric forms that interweave solid wood and metal. Together, we wish to create a space that celebrates creativity and speaks the evolving language of modern reinvented designs, and tap into the growing segment of consumers seeking products that balance artistry with functionality. Commercially, this partnership expands reach and introduces design offerings for an untapped niche of modern colonial style. In essence, it’s a union where design philosophies align and market strengths can amplify.

LuxeBook: What does this launch say about the evolution of India’s premium home décor market?

Gaurav Jain: Once ruled by imported luxury products or traditional designs and crafts, India’s premium home décor landscape has transformed into an expression of modern lifestyle, its needs, and its evolution. Home decor in India now thrives on a fusion of global aesthetics blended with indigenous artistry, driven by the rise of discerning urban consumers and exposure to international design trends. A growing emphasis on individuality has also redefined the idea of “luxury”, shifting from ostentatious to mindful and design-centric. Sustainable materials and processes, artisanal craftsmanship and bespoke designs have become the core narrative. Brands are increasingly weaving traditional techniques with contemporary forms, creating timeless pieces that resonate with both heritage and modernity. Digital platforms and experiential retail have further expanded access and awareness, positioning India as a lucrative market and a creator of world-class décor.

LuxeBook: What’s next for Orange Tree?

Gaurav Jain: What’s next for Orange Tree is more new chapters of collaborations, design evolutions and expansions. We aim to explore new material innovations, collaborate with contemporary designers and strengthen our presence through experiential retail stores, our digital platform, and by creating fresh global footprints. With sustainability and storytelling at its core, we will continue creating collections that balance art and utility, tradition and modernity. The vision ahead is clear- to shape spaces that inspire emotion, reflect conscious luxury, and position Orange Tree as a leading voice.
