Gaurav Gupta Creates a “Wearable City” Capsule Collection with Visit Dubai

The souvenir industry is alive only for one reason—when we love a place, we want to take a piece of it with us. Some settle for fridge magnets, others for keychains. But nothing says “I was there” like wearing a city on your back. Gaurav Gupta seems to know this best. In his latest capsule collection, he collaborates with Visit Dubai to turn the city’s essence into couture– its dynamism into high fashion.

Revealed at an exclusive showcase at Gaurav Gupta’s flagship store in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda, the collection is a sartorial tribute to Dubai’s architectural drama, sweeping landscapes, and cultural intersections. For Gupta, known for his gravity-defying drapes and futuristic silhouettes, the project was less about designing garments and more about translating Dubai’s ambition into fabric and form.

Dubai has long been a second home to Indian designers and shoppers alike, its fashion scene evolving into a launchpad for global talent. This partnership cements that relationship, placing Dubai not just as a shopping destination but as a muse. As a city that thrives on reinvention, it finds a kindred spirit in Gupta’s couture, where his traditional Indian sensibilities act as a medium to actualise Dubai’s present and future.

The five-piece capsule is a study in movement and construction, each design distilling a different aspect of Dubai’s landscape. The Silver Pearl Gown, with its metallic breastplate and abstract embroidery, mirrors the interplay of arches in the city’s historic districts and the rippling reflections on Dubai Creek.

The Sculptural Pearl Gown and its cascading arches, channel the shifting dunes of the desert. For the Celestial Sculpted Cascaded Gown, more than 2,000 crystals recreate the sunlit contours of Hatta’s rugged mountains and the moody charm of Al Seef. And finally the Wave-Sculpted Sand Gown, which shows moondust embroidery and undulating details, freezing in time, the interplay of light and shadow across Hatta’s terrains.

“Designing this collection was like carving poetry into fabric,” Gupta said at the launch. “Dubai is a city that constantly growing. That sense of transformation, of pushing boundaries, is what we wanted to reflect in every stitch, every sculpted detail.”

For Visit Dubai, the partnership is a statement about the city’s growing influence in the global style ecosystem. “The collaboration with Gaurav Gupta celebrates the deep cultural ties between Dubai and India through fashion,” said Bader Ali Habib, Director of Proximity Markets at Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Following its Mumbai debut, the Dubai-inspired capsule collection is now available on order, with select pieces soon to be stocked at Gaurav Gupta stores across India. For Dubai vacationers who prefer their souvenirs wearable, this collection is worth a shot.
