The new affordable Apple iPhone 16e launches in India
September marks the arrival of the new iPhone release, but this year February has some major buzz. Apple has launched an affordable phone, the iPhone 16e priced at INR 59,900 as opposed to the iPhone 16 price which begins at ₹79,900. With a drastic slash in terms of price points, the iPhone 16e joins the iPhone 16 lineup.
So, what’s new? And more importantly, is it worth the hype? Let’s break it down.

The philosophy defined launching the model Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing says is, “We’re so excited for iPhone 16e to complete the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the iPhone experience to even more people.” Despite its lower price point, the iPhone 16e doesn’t skimp on features. It runs on Apple’s latest A18 chip, ensuring top-tier performance, and introduces Apple Intelligence for smarter user interactions. The battery life is impressive, lasting up to six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and twelve hours longer than all previous iPhone SE models.
What’s New?
One of the standout features is the Action Button, which allows users to interact with their environment in a whole new way. Visual Intelligence can summarize and copy text, translate languages, recognize animals and plants, and even identify objects for quick online searches. For instance, you can use it to find out where to buy a specific item or tap into ChatGPT’s problem-solving capabilities—all while keeping control over data sharing with third-party tools.
Another highlight is the C1 modem, Apple’s first in-house modem, designed for exceptional 5G connectivity and power efficiency. This marks a major step in Apple’s move towards self-reliance in hardware innovation.
Design & Display
In terms of design, it is sleek and striking available in two colourways black and white. At first glance, the iPhone 16e doesn’t look drastically different from its predecessor. But Apple has refined the design, think sleeker edges, a slightly lighter frame, and a fresh range of colours. It sports a sleek, durable build with IP68 water and dust resistance. The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, shared with the iPhone 14, offers stunning visuals for gaming, streaming, and reading. While the iPhone 16 lineup boasts Dynamic Island, the 16e retains the notch design, keeping it in line with earlier models.
Unlike the other iPhone 16 models, the 16e comes with a single-lens 48MP Fusion camera. However, it cleverly integrates a 2x Telephoto feature, essentially giving you two cameras in one. This allows for high-resolution shots and optical zoom without compromising image quality. Whether it’s capturing landscapes or detailed portraits, the camera system ensures crisp, vibrant images.

But the big question: Is it worth it? If you want an Apple device with a good mix of performance, features, and affordability, the iPhone 16e is a great choice. It may not have all the high-end extras, but it’s powerful and reliable for everyday use.
iPhone 16e will be available in white and black in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities, starting at INR 59,900. Pre-orders of the phone begin 21, February, with availability beginning 28 February.
