BMW’s new 7 Series arrives in India with a Tarun Tahiliani showcase
There are cars you drive, and then there are cars you can’t stop thinking about once you’re done driving. BMW’s new 7 Series belongs to the latter category. For its India launch this September, BMW Group India brought its flagship sedan to Delhi in a special showcase of Tarun Tahiliani’s Autumn Winter 2026 collection.
The new BMW 7 Series arrives in India with a substantially refreshed design and technology package. Its exterior takes on a more monolithic character, centred around BMW’s illuminated Iconic Glow kidney grille and newly designed crystal headlights. The lighting continues into the cabin, while the sedan’s focus remains firmly on the rear passenger experience, with Executive Lounge seating and an enhanced 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen.

Inside, the flagship adopts BMW’s newer digital architecture, including BMW Panoramic Vision, BMW Operating System X and a first-ever passenger screen. The cabin can also be specified with BMW Individual materials, while a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, ambient lighting and multiple comfort functions turn the rear compartment into something closer to a private lounge than a conventional car seat.
The Indian line-up spans internal-combustion and all-electric options, with the updated i7 range including the performance-focused i7 M70. BMW says the new electric drivetrain can deliver a range of up to 728km under the WLTP testing cycle, while India is now only the second country after Germany where the i7 is locally produced.
The updated 7 Series launched in India at a starting price of ₹1.95 crore (ex-showroom), with the 740 petrol forming the core ICE offering. The 7 Series and i7 50 xDrive are locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai facility.
The automotive showcase was accompanied by Tarun Tahiliani’s Autumn Winter 2026 collection, a continuation of his “India Modern” design philosophy. The collection played with the tension between structure and movement. Sculpted corsets appeared beneath fluid drapes, while pre-draped sarees, architectural lehengas, sharply cut jumpsuits and separates brought a more modern ease to occasion dressing.

Its visual language travelled across several worlds. Byzantine grandeur appeared through ornate surfaces and gilded detailing, while Rococo-inspired florals softened the more architectural silhouettes. Pichwai references brought an Indian visual vocabulary into the mix, while “Crystal Relic” explored the drama of light and embellishment. Craft remained central throughout. Hand embroidery, crystal embellishment, metallic textures, floral applications and heritage textiles were balanced against lighter fabrics and fluid construction.
Speaking about the collaboration, Tarun Tahiliani said, “The new BMW 7 Series was an incredible source of inspiration for this collection. Its sculptural presence, clean lines and sense of precision immediately resonated with the way I approach fashion. I was particularly drawn to the illuminated grille and crystal headlights, and the play of light and detail they create. There is a similar language in couture, where structure, craftsmanship and the smallest details come together to create something that feels powerful yet understated.

Mr. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, added, “Dedication leads to craft at its finest and the new BMW 7 Series range is the ultimate proof of this commitment. Tarun Tahiliani brings together two distinct worlds united by a shared pursuit of excellence, innovation and craftsmanship. The Indian luxury consumer today is looking beyond conventional notions of exclusivity and seeking experiences that reflect their individual tastes, aspirations and way of life. The new BMW 7 and i7 represent the pinnacle of this philosophy, combining unmistakable presence progressive technology, and exceptional comfort, inviting every customer to drive their perfect match and experience luxury as individual as they are.”
