The new M1 sports car is a collaboration between BMW and Kith
BMW and Kith have collaborated on two cars in the past, but the third one is surely a charm. German automotive company and New York streetwear brand have joined hands for a new sports car the M1 with an old-school vintage look. The coupe comes with a Techno Violet finish and the car is every automotive fan’s dream. the Ronnie Fieg-designed car was showcased during Art Basel Miami Beach. For the BMW X Kitha collaboration, Fieg the car has retained its iconic wedge-shaped design by Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. However, the original M1 was far more rounded in shape when it debuted in 1978.

Some of the key characteristics of the first model like folding headlights, a flat kidney at the front, black slats over the rear window and a low height, still exist. The car has been lowered by 30 millimetres at the front and 35 millimetres at the rear, while the track on both axles has been widened by 40 millimetres. But a closer look at the design shows that much wasn’t done to the exterior, instead it has been accentuated by being painted a new shade. What’s more? The car has subtle nods to both brands. On the exterior, the M1 has a special Kith M-Series badge on the rear deck lid.

The car has a special Kith M-Series badge on the rear deck lid, and black backlit side strips that glow purple around the Kith lettering when lit. The side panels also feature a backlit Kith logo. The headlights and the M radiator grille glow purple thanks to LED lights, and the 23-inch alloy wheels have a unique finish with purple pigments.
Inside, the cabin is upgraded with luxurious BMW Individual Black Merino Leather and Kith monograms on the seats, headrests, gear shifter, door panels, and floor mats. The standard M multifunction seats are replaced with sporty M Carbon bucket seats for an extra touch of style and performance.

Under the hood, the mechanisms have been left the same. Every component was reconstructed in collaboration with BMW Classic and comes from the original stock. While The M1 isn’t the most powerful M car, its 3.5-liter inline-six engine with four valves per cylinder is impressive, and it delivers 277 horsepower and 243 ft-lbs of torque. When it first hit the market, the M1 could go from 0 to 60 mph in under six seconds and reach a top speed of 165 mph, which was pretty impressive for its time.
The sad news? Unfortunately, the Techno Violet BMX X Kith M1 is just a one-off car as part of the Kith for BMW showcase at Art Basel Miami.
