A Culinary Collaboration with The Macallan and Avartana

Following a successful unveiling in Delhi, The Macallan and Avartana orchestrated an epicurean 7-course pairing experience in Mumbai at ITC Maratha on February 8th. The collaboration, an ambitious fusion of the world’s leading single malt whisky with an award-winning restaurant ranked 30 in Asia’s 50 Best, unfolded seamlessly, showcasing the synergy of these two forces. Diners were treated to an immersive journey, embracing the nuanced and complex flavors of The Macallan’s exceptional single malts paired with the innovative and exquisite culinary marvels of Avartana. The result was an unparalleled experience for both whisky connoisseurs and epicureans.

The well-set tables at ITC Maratha exuded sophistication, creating an ambiance that complemented the culinary and whisky pairing experience. Each table was meticulously arranged, reflecting the attention to detail synonymous with ITC Hotels. The elegant setting added to the overall allure of the evening, setting the stage for an unforgettable gastronomic adventure.

The unconventional approach extended beyond the flavors to the very vessels that held each culinary creation. The dishes were not presented on conventional restaurant plates; rather, each plate held significance to a specific region in South India. Crafted from regional rocks and other authentic materials, these plates were a testament to Avartana’s commitment to celebrating the rich tapestry of southern flavors. The use of such distinctive servingware added an extra layer of authenticity and cultural resonance to the dining experience.

The unique pairing seamlessly harmonized The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old, The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old, The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old, and The Macallan Sherry Oak Cask 12 Years Old with their rich, sweet, and balanced notes, such as vanilla, toffee, and cinnamon. This was complemented by Avartana’s meticulously crafted menu, leaving an indelible mark on each palate and memory.

The carefully curated dishes showcased classic tastes and timeless ingredients. Offerings such as ‘Steamed Seabass with Gongoora Emulsion’, ‘Drumstick Dumplings immersed in a Moringa Broth’, and ‘Uthukuli Chicken’ paired seamlessly with the impossibly soft ‘Malabar Parotta’. The subtle ‘Asparagus & Coconut Stew’ featured a turmeric-infused coconut broth embracing delicate idiyappam. Noteworthy was the steaming hot French press Rasam, served in a glass for intermittent sips, with the tomato and spices cleansing the palate between courses.

The culinary journey concluded on a sweet note with the Fennel Panna Cotta adorned with angel hair caramel. Madhu Rajigani, Brand Ambassador for The Macallan in India, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to announce the second edition of our creative collaboration with Avartana, aiming to curate an immersive and unforgettable experience for our discerning audience in Mumbai.” Rajigani emphasized The Macallan’s commitment to creating extraordinary moments through the prism of fine food.
