Glam vs minimalism: top 10 looks from the IIFAs ’22
Schenelle Dsouza
After two years of hits and misses, the 22nd edition of the International Indian Film Academy awards, also known as the IIFA awards took place in UAE from June 3-4. The two-day power-packed event was organised at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
While the IIFA awards is a stage to promote and celebrate the wonders of Indian cinema, one cannot ignore the fashion forward outfits on the red carpet. The 22nd edition saw a healthy fashion face-off between minimalism and over-the-top glam (we aren’t complaining). From Sara and Ananya’s minimalistic white ensembles to Nargis Fakhri’s dramatic ball gown, the red carpet saw quite a few awe-inspiring looks.
Take a look at our top 10 favourite looks from the 2022 IIFA awards night.
Ananya Pandey

The actress had donned one of the most elegant outfits of the evening. The Gehraiyaan star was dressed in a white Manish Malhotra saree embossed with sequins and light beadwork. She paired it with a complementing halter blouse, diamond and pearl danglers, and went for a subtle bronze makeup with wavy hair.
Divya Khosla Kumar

Shades of white seemed to be the theme for IIFA 2022. Actor, producer and director, Divya Khosla Kumar went for a stunning all-white dress by Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco. The strapless gown had an asymmetrical hem and a dramatic ruffled train. She kept the look as glam as possible with diamond jewellery and statement crystal heels by Jimmy Choo.
Jacqueline Fernandez

The actress went for a dress inspired from the saree for her IIFA look. A sheer white Shantanu & Nikhil ensemble, the outfit was a modern interpretation of a saree with the pallu and blouse, and a modern gown style skirt. The entire outfit was decorated with silver embroidery, going slightly heavy at the ends of the skirt. The actress paired the look with pinkish-nude makeup, a neat bun and diamond earrings.
Kriti Sanon

Sanon loves to experiment with gowns and long trains, taking advantage of her height. For the awards, the Mimi actress wore an extensively long, embellished gown by Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco. The gown had a heavily embellished bodice with a long, neon tulle train. She paired the look with a pulled-back hairdo and diamond earrings that complemented her outfit quite well.
Lara Dutta Bhupathi

Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta Bhupathi lit up the red carpet with her stunning jewel-toned gown by Gavin Miguel. A plunging neckline, thigh-high slit and elaborate sleeves give the gown a dramatic oomph. The actress was clever to go for a sleek pulled back hairdo, soft pink makeup and just the right amount of bling with purple danglers, and a purple statement ring.
Nargis Fakhri

Nargis Fakhri had one of the best outfits of the evening. There was colour, drama and a whole lot of glam. Another Michael Cinco masterpiece, the ball gown was hand painted with different shades of green on black tulle. The skirt was dramatically huge, while the bodice was decorated with green crystals for a light sparkle. Emerald green earrings, a top knot and cat-eye makeup tied up the look perfectly.
Nora Fatehi

Moroccan actress Nora Fatehi loves to play dramatic with her choice of clothes, and her all-black Versace gown is one of our favourites. The strapless gown had a thigh-high slit and gold safety pin style embellishments, paired with matching gold accessories, also from Versace. The high ponytail was a cherry on top.
Sara Ali Khan

Sara absolutely loves her Indian ensembles, especially shararas and salwars. For the IIFAs, she opted for a gold embellished outfit by Faraz Manan. It was a heavily embellished outfit with sequins, embroidery and plenty of beadwork. To balance the look, she paired it with simple diamond studs, neutral makeup, sparkly pumps and wavy hair.
Sharvari Wagh

Bunty Aur Babli 2‘s Sharvari Wagh made her IIFA debut in a black-and-silver Abhishek Sharma gown. The gown made quite a statement with its backless design and plunging neckline. What we really enjoyed looking at though is the intricate bead and embroidery work done in pastel blues, greens and white that encircled the gown. The actress went for minimal jewellery, with small blue-green gemstone earrings, and subtle smoky eye makeup that really helped lift the look.
