Siddhartha Bansal on Weaving a Rhapsody of Modern India

In Siddhartha Bansal’s world, colour hums like a symphony and print tells the stories of people, places, and poetry. His latest collection, The Great Indian Rhapsody, is a kaleidoscopic ode to the India he sees; it’s chaotic, beautiful, and endlessly alive. Known for blending Indian craftsmanship with a global bohemian spirit, Bansal stitches nostalgia and modernity into one seamless fabric.

As the designer walks us through his new collection, where phulkari meets pop art and Mughal-inspired florals dance alongside digital abstractions, you sense the rhapsody he’s composing is not just sartorial, but emotional. Much like a painter translating emotion onto canvas, Bansal’s process is immersive, shaped by markets, artisans, and the sensory overload that only India can offer.

In this exclusive conversation with LuxeBook, he opens up about his design rituals, Gen Z’s shifting ideas of investment fashion, and why he believes the future belongs to a more thoughtful kind of maximalism.

LuxeBook: Indian craftsmanship meets global bohemian spirit in your work. What’s your biggest challenge (and joy) in bridging these worlds?

Siddhartha Bansal: Bridging the rich tapestry of Indian craftsmanship with a global bohemian spirit is both a challenge and a joy. The challenge lies in ensuring that the authenticity of traditional techniques is preserved while making them accessible and appealing to a diverse audience. The joy comes from witnessing how these intricate details resonate with people worldwide, igniting conversations about culture, heritage, and the beauty of diversity. Each piece becomes a story, a connection between worlds.

LuxeBook: Prints are your playground; what new print story are you most excited to explore in upcoming collections?

Siddhartha Bansal: In my upcoming collections, I am particularly excited about exploring the concept of “Cultural Mosaics.” This print story will blend traditional Indian motifs with contemporary patterns, creating a visual narrative that celebrates the interplay between cultures. Expect vibrant colors and layered textures that evoke the chaos and beauty of everyday Indian life, telling stories through each print.

LuxeBook: Fashion often swings between minimalism and maximalism. Where do you see the next big shift?

Siddhartha Bansal: I believe we are on the cusp of a shift towards a more thoughtful maximalism. As consumers increasingly seek meaningful connections with their clothing, fashion will blend bold expressions with intentional design. This means embracing intricate details, rich textures, and vibrant colors while maintaining sustainability and ethical practices at the forefront.

LuxeBook: How do you think Gen Z is reshaping the idea of “investment fashion,” and how does your label speak to them?

Siddhartha Bansal: Gen Z is redefining investment fashion by prioritizing authenticity, sustainability, and storytelling. They seek pieces that reflect their identities and values. My label speaks to them by emphasizing craftsmanship, unique design narratives, and the emotional connection behind each garment. Our collections are designed to be versatile, allowing for personal expression while encouraging thoughtful consumption.

LuxeBook: Do you have a design ritual or superstition before starting a new collection?

Siddhartha Bansal: Yes, I have a ritual that involves immersing myself in the sights, sounds, and flavors of India. I often visit local markets, observe daily life, and engage with artisans to gather inspiration. This process helps me ground my creativity and ensures that every collection is rooted in authentic experiences and stories.

LuxeBook: If you weren’t a designer, what other form of storytelling would you be doing?

Siddhartha Bansal: If I weren’t a designer, I would likely be an illustrator or a writer. Both mediums allow for storytelling through visual and narrative forms. I find joy in creating worlds and characters, much like I do through fashion. Each design is a chapter, and I love the idea of weaving tales that resonate with others.

LuxeBook: What’s one piece from your archive that you’d call your “forever favourite,” and why?

Siddhartha Bansal: One piece that stands out is a hand-embroidered jacket inspired by traditional Indian textiles. It embodies the essence of my brand: intricate craftsmanship, vibrant colors, and a connection to culture and history. This piece not only represents my journey as a designer but also serves as a reminder of the beauty found in the details of everyday life.

LuxeBook: What role do you think colour is going to play in the coming year- are we looking at moodier palettes, or is dopamine dressing here to stay?

Siddhartha Bansal: Color is set to play a transformative role in the coming year. While I anticipate a resurgence of moodier palettes that evoke depth and introspection, I believe dopamine dressing will continue to thrive as a response to our current climate. Vibrant, joyful colors will resonate with those seeking positivity and uplifting experiences, creating a beautiful juxtaposition between the two approaches.
