The city transforms into a stage for art, literature, design, and music (lots of concerts to look forward to in December), each event revealing a facet of its evolving creative identity.

Whether you’re wandering through a fairground of contemporary art, tracing the city’s Art Deco legacy, or dancing under strobe lights with Afrojack, here’s your curated list of where to be this month!

Now in its third edition, Art Mumbai returns to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse as one of South Asia’s most ambitious art fairs, gathering 82 exhibitors and over 2,000 artworks under one roof. The fair strikes a balance between legacy galleries like Chemould Prescott Road, in operation since the 1960s and a wave of dynamic contemporary galleries such as Black Cube and Lakeeren.

Beyond the booths, a robust Speaker Series anchors the fair, unpacking art valuation, collecting as investment, and the shifting contours of South Asian patronage. A centenary retrospective of Tyeb Mehta honours one of India’s modernist masters, while curated tours and guided walks offer an intimate entry into the practices of emerging and mid-career artists
