25 years ago an icon was born by Italian luxury house Fendi, the baguette. An icon of pop culture, the bag went on to create history and become a timeless classic after appearing on the runway in New York in 1997.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the cult favourite and to celebrate the occasion, Fendi launched an ingenious collection that exudes a hyper-luxe quotient and is filled with glossy glamour in NYC. ā€œI didn’t want to do a traditional collection for the anniversary. Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous,” shared Artistic Director of Womenswear Kim Jones.

Making it an exclusive collection, the luxury house joined hands with Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co, Sarah Jessica Parker and Porter (a Japanese luggage brand), to pay homage to the iconic Fendi Baguette, and the city in which its place in pop culture history was sealed — New York City.
Shimmer, glitter and bursts of colour pop were the most common theme spotted in the collection. A reflection of the glittering and gritty New York cityscape, the collection includes classic staples of the house seen through the lens of Marc Jacobs. From gigantic fur hats to monogram tracksuits, FF logo heels, sequins and metallic accents that were widespread in the collection, the range showcased Kim Jone’s love for streetwear and Marc Jacob’s playful tastes. Also making an appearance on the runway were neon accents, oversized jackets and sequins dresses.

Small Baguette pendants dangled on long chain necklaces while gloves and beanies had FF-branded Baguette pockets. The FF logo took centre stage and worked as a key detailing element across clothing, footwear and accessories.

Tiffany & Co. X The Baguette
But the fun doesn’t stop there, luxury jeweller Tiffany & Co. stepped in to reimagine the Baguette making it a proud addition to the ranks of every collector. Touted for exquisite diamonds, the house further adds charisma to the classic silhouette with the use of silver, enamel, crocodile leather, white gold and diamonds. The brand has also released a special bag in the signature turquoise shade with diamonds on the FF logo for the celebratory collection that will be on the market in 2023. Bella Hadid was spotted modelling for the special bag on the runway.

Sarah Jessica Parker X The Baguette
Further, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character in Sex and the City, Carri Bradshaw further popularised the bag by giving it its touted status. The famous line from SATC – Ā ā€œIt’s not a bag, it’s a baguette!ā€ only makes it right to make Sarah Jessica Parker a part of the new collection. Adding her very own touch Parker’s designs are seen embroidered in degradĆ© sequins with a palette of purple, wasabi, baby pink or soft blue.

Finally, Japanese luggage brand Porter, known for its hard-wearing bonded nylon and precise craftsmanship, gives the Baguette a unique reinterpretation that’s at once sporty and also a great addition to your daily wear wardrobe.

While many got together to give the iconic brand a new interpretation, the classic underarm style bag carries a legacy that is irreplaceable. And having one on your shelf is definitely worth the hype.
The new collection echoed the signature style while infusing it with a refreshing twist. New materials were explored, the bags were drizzled in shimmer and the size variations were played. Nonetheless, we loved the addition of the FF logo on heels, and pockets.
*The Marc Jacobs x Fendi collection hits stores next month, while The Tiffany Baguette will be in the market in early 2023.Ā
