Luxury Chocolatier Smoor opens its first signature cafe
Schenelle Dsouza
Bangalore-based luxury chocolate brand Smoor opened its first signature café in Mumbai.

Quaint interiors located in Bandra’s prestigious Reclamation area, it is spread over 700 sq. ft., featuring some of the most Instagrammable interiors. The interiors follow a rampant art deco theme with fluted panels, 3D marble flooring and decorative arches. The entire space is painted in neutral tones, with hints of black for the perfect contrast.

The café has an indoor and outdoor seating area, both of which seem quite appealing. While the outdoors provide a more airy space, the indoors have a perfect view of the dessert counter, which is my favourite view to be honest! The indoors is divided with counters presenting guests with the finest offerings of desserts — chocolates, cakes, pastries, and macarons, in addition to a scrumptious menu of savoury delights.

All day dining
The menu at Smoor is as good as one can expect at a café, with wholesome options that are fulfilling yet not too heavy so one is able to enjoy the sweet offerings.

My meal companion and I decided to start with the savoury servings. The menu features quite a few options in regard to sandwiches, salad bowls and sushi for a quick delicious bite. With quite a few options to choose from, we opted for the roasted chicken and cheese sandwich — a classic.

Served with a side of crispy fries, the sandwich was quite delicious, perfect for a quick bite before any meal. The sandwich was accompanied by a hot cup of cappuccino, which was personally one of the best coffees I’ve had at a café recently.

Next, we opted for a round of sushi — a tempura prawn, and a California roll; the latter was a vegetarian option. These were surprisingly filling, but delectable nonetheless. While I quite enjoyed both, I was more drawn to the tempura prawn sushi, as it had a more colourful flavour palate.

The café had some delectable options for dessert like pastries, cupcakes, macarons, croissants, chocolate truffles and more.

Being someone who really enjoys macarons, I picked a few selections of macarons including French vanilla, hazelnut praline, pistachio, and salted caramel. These were all perfectly prepared with the right texture, each having its own distinct flavour. And while I savoured each of them, the salted caramel and hazelnut praline macarons stood out for me the most. Upon our hostess Pooja’s insistence, I tried the much hyped hot chocolate. A delicious blend for a cold rainy day, the hot chocolate had a very creamy texture, but was a tad too sweet for me given the dessert binge!

While I devoured my selection of desserts, my lunch date opted for a pistachio tart. This is perfect for those who prefer a dessert that is not completely doused in chocolate. The dessert had a pistachio praline and almond biscuit tart base which was filled with pistachio mousse and a milk chocolate ganache. It was sweet yet light and creamy, and can be a little difficult to finish on your own!
