A 2021 summer guide to stylish slings

The multi-purpose purse’s younger sibling, the sling, has made it to several luxury fashion houses’ Spring Summer 2021 collections. Summery shades, bucket bag silhouettes and a size that’s a perfect fit for all your essentials.  

Here’s a collection of drool-worthy slings fashioned to carry your phone, hand sanitizer, money, sunglasses, and an extra mask!  

Chloé  

The Small Basket from Chloé’s new spring collection is a result of a collaboration with Mifuko, a women’s social enterprise based in Kenya. The word ‘Mifuko‘, means ‘pocket’ in Swahili, and the organization makes each bag unique with the maker’s name embossed on the bag.  

Givenchy 

The new collection of 4G bags from French luxury house, debuted in December as part of the pre-fall 2021 collection by creative director Matthew Williams. The cross-body bag is devised of smooth calfskin leather, engraved in the newly tweaked Givenchy’s 4G emblem, finished in silver details.  

Jimmy Choo 

In Jimmy Choo’s 2021 “Springtime in Paris” collection the Bon  Bon bucket bag gets a summer upgrade. The delicate sun-bleached beaded bucket bag is a statement piece for the beach, with a silver top handle, tassel detail and a sleek drawstring chain.  

Jacquemus  

The brand is known for its super bijou bags, but this Le seau carré (square bucket) sling is slightly bigger, ideal for all your summer essentials. Made of vegetable tanned leather, the Barbie-hued bag is available in subtle tones as well.  

Loewe 

The buttery calfskin Puzzle bag is the debut bag for LOEWE by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, as part of their SS21 Runway collection. The nano sized design comes in a classic colour and style, to get you through the summer and the possibly the rest of the year.   

Marni  

Wide strokes paint yet another popular style for Spring Summer 21, the bucket bag. Marni’s Pannier bucket bag in a muted yellow, features a beaten brass textured handle and a leather body. 

Papa Don’t Preach 

Sparking joy with bright colours and embellished designs is Papa Don’t Preach’s line of belt-bags. Style the detachable sling across your waist and go green in a dark faux leather.  

Versace  

Sporting a bold and fun silhouette, the round La Medusa camera bag is bright fun addition to a summer wardrobe. Like many other heritage fashion brands, Versace reinvents its classic Medusa plaque, the same one that is embedded on the doors of the brand’s first headquarters in Milan.
