Luxury cars edit: What’s New and What’s Next in the Auto landscape

July revved into high gear with a trio of premium launches that showcased design innovation, electric ambitions, and revamped performance in India’s luxury car landscape. From MG’s long-awaited Cyberster to Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe launch, here’s a closer look at the key unveilings that defined the month and the monsoons (and new additions to look forward to in the second half of this year).

MG Cyberster

MG Motor India’s halo EV: the Cyberster  finally touched down in the Indian market on 25 July 2025 under the brand’s new ultra-luxury vertical, MG Select. They believe in doors that rise, and everything else (510 PS Power. 725 Nm of torque blistering with a dual-motor thrust). Priced at ₹72.49 lakh (introductory) and ₹74.99 lakh (standard), the electric soft-top convertible is not just a head-turner: it’s also MG’s fastest production car to date. Powered by a 77 kWh dual-motor setup, it delivers 510 PS and 725 Nm, catapulting from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds, while offering a CLTC-rated range of 580 km.

Its exterior boasts scissor doors, 20-inch alloys, and a silhouette inspired by British roadster heritage; yet entirely reimagined for the electric age. Inside, it’s equally cutting-edge: a curved 10.25-inch touchscreen cockpit, premium vegan leather, and an advanced Level 2 ADAS suite. The model is being sold in limited numbers via MG Select lounges across major metros and is aimed at early adopters of design-forward EVs in India. Deliveries to begin post 10 August.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was launched in India on 17 July 2025, bringing with it subtle exterior enhancements and a significantly overhauled tech package. Available in 218i M Sport (₹46.90 lakh) and M Sport Pro (₹48.90 lakh) trims, the compact four-door coupe is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine putting out 156 bhp and 230 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The M Sport Pro features an athletic character with black high-gloss design elements whereas other update include sleeker adaptive LED headlights, illuminated kidney grilles, and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.

But the real upgrade is on the inside, where BMW’s curved display setup: featuring a 10.25-inch digital cluster and 10.7-inch infotainment screen which runs on the brand’s latest Operating System 9. Additional highlights include a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay, ADAS functionality, and optional Harman Kardon audio in the top variant. It’s manufactured locally at BMW’s Chennai plant, reinforcing the brand’s localisation efforts. Sportier bumpers, sharp contours -this one didn’t just hit the gym, it hired a designer too!

 Tesla Model Y

On 15 July 2025, Tesla officially launched its first vehicle in India: the Model Y SUV, marking its debut in the country. The launch was accompanied by the opening of Tesla’s first Experience Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, signalling strong state support. Priced between ₹59.89 Lakh and ₹73.89 Lakh, customers could immediately place orders via Tesla’s Indian website. Deliveries of the base rear‑wheel‑drive (RWD) version are slated to begin in Q3 2025, while the Long Range RWD variant is expected from October to January 2026. Whether you’re navigating traffic or escaping it, comfort is everywhere. Front and rear touchscreens give passengers complete control, while heated and ventilated seats, soft-touch textiles, and power recline features offer true lounge-level luxury. 

A minimalist design ethos meets maximum functionality in this electric SUV, with a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.5 seconds (Performance variant), up to 533 km range (WLTP), and an industry-leading drag coefficient of 0.23. But beyond numbers, the experience inside is what sets it apart. “Close the door and the world fades?”- engineered with acoustic glass and a sealed cabin, the Model Y offers a soundproof sanctuary: perfect for your playlists to take center stage. Doors and boot unlock as you approach. Calls stay crystal clear. Data downloads fast. And Bluetooth keeps every passenger in tune with their own entertainment bubble.

Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe

Confirmed to arrive in India on August 12, 2025, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe is a striking blend of GT elegance and raw AMG performance. The ‘coupe’ (two-door car with a fixed roof, typically designed to be sleeker, sportier, and more performance-oriented than sedans) houses a hybrid-enhanced inline-six engine that produces 449 hp and 560 Nm of torque, with an additional 40 Nm available in Overboost mode. As the successor to both the C-Class and E-Class coupes, it’s tailored for driving enthusiasts and executives seeking a spirited yet sophisticated ride. Ideal for those who want a car that looks aggressive and drives like a thrill — but still carries the badge of luxury.

Estimated to be priced between ₹1.2 to ₹2 crore, it strengthens Mercedes-Benz’s performance lineup with a fresh, athletic silhouette.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II

The Facelift  is a different league in the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II, expected to launch in India by late 2025. This facelifted version of the iconic SUV introduces design upgrades including slimmer LED headlights, an illuminated Pantheon grille, and optional 23-inch wheels. The interior is enhanced with a modern digital dashboard and updated multimedia system; yet retains the hallmark 6.75L V12 engine that defines its majestic, whisper-quiet presence. Crafted for the ultra-luxury clientele who expect nothing short of perfection, the Series II reinforces Cullinan’s stronghold on the bespoke SUV segment.

Prices are expected to start at ₹10.5 crore (ex-showroom).

Audi Q6 e-tron

Expected Launch: H2 2025 (India debut confirmed)

On the electric front again, Audi’s Q6 e-tron is set to make its India debut in the second half of 2025, riding in on the promise of redefining premium EV experiences. Built on the advanced PPE platform co-developed with Porsche, this sleek SUV boasts a WLTP range of up to 625 km and supports DC fast charging up to 270 kW. Its triple-screen infotainment system, digital-first cabin, and sculpted design: (drawing inspiration from both the Q8 e-tron and A6 e-tron concepts) positions itself as a flagship for Audi’s EV ambitions.

Targeted at tech-forward professionals and urban families, the Q6 e-tron is expected to be priced between ₹90 lakh and ₹1.1 crore, ushering in a new era of electric luxury on Indian roads.
