Tesla Inc., the California-based electric vehicle company is finally arriving in India in 2021. This report was confirmed by Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport & Highways and MSME at the Idea Exchange Programme by The Indian Express. “Tesla is preparing to start operations in India by early 2021. I am sure that there are a lot of EV which are equal to Tesla from the technology point of view,” Gadkari commented to The Indian Express.

Automobile fanatics were especially anticipating Tesla’s entry to the country after its Founder Elon Musk tweeted recently in October to Tesla Club India, saying it will come to India “Next year for sure”.
Tesla will start its operations for the Indian customers with direct sales of Tesla Model 3, a sleek and toned electric car which accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. In a span of 15 minutes, this fully-electric vehicle can cover up to 281 kms (175 mi).
Priced at around Rs55-60 lakhs, it will be imported as a CBU (completely built unit). The assembly and manufacturing phases will not yet start in the country and will be decided according to the demand and response the maiden model gets here.

As per ET Auto, Tesla Model 3 was pre-booked by some renowned Indian personalities, including Paytm’s Vijay Sekhar Sharma, Marketer and Investor Mahesh Murthy and Sujayath Ali of Voonik. In 2021, the bookings for this car will start as early as January, while the deliveries most likely will begin by the end of Q1 of 2021-22.
