Carlton Cannes: The hotel everyone wants in on during Cannes
As the world prepares for Cannes Film Festival 2026, the French Riviera is once again slipping into its most glamorous season. Superyachts are returning to the Croisette, couture is taking over red carpets and cinema’s biggest names are preparing to descend on Cannes. But long before the flashbulbs, premieres and after parties turned the city into a global spectacle, one legendary address defines the spirit of Cannes itself every year- Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel. During the festival, photographers line the entrance from morning, luxury brands host private dinners behind closed doors and international publications use the property as a backdrop for fashion editorials, jewellery showcases and intimate film conversations. And for nearly eight decades, no address has embodied that power more than this one.
Of course, staying at Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel during festival week comes at its own cinematic price point. During Cannes, suites at the legendary Riviera address can easily soar beyond ₹2 lakh per night and often far higher for sea facing signature suites and penthouses, where privacy, prestige and proximity to the festival become the ultimate luxury currency. But then again, at Cannes, guests are not merely booking a hotel room. They are buying temporary access into the world’s most glamorous backstage pass, so it makes sense.
More than a luxury hotel, the Belle Époque icon is woven into the very history of the festival. It was here, inside the hotel’s original casino in 1946, that the first Cannes Film Festival came to life, forever linking the Carlton to Hollywood glamour, Riviera elegance and cinematic history. Nearly eight decades later, the hotel remains the beating heart of festival season, where filmmakers, fashion houses, actors and global tastemakers continue to gather under the Mediterranean sun.
This year, Indian representation is expected to be stronger than ever, with names including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari, Karan Johar, Tara Sutaria and Kalyani Priyadarshan expected to make appearances at the red carpet.

Opened in 1913 by celebrated hotelier Henri Ruhl, the property quickly became one of the Riviera’s most iconic hotels, recognised for its elegant white façade, signature domes and sweeping sea views that continue to define the Cannes skyline. Its relationship with cinema, however, transformed the hotel into something far greater than a luxury stay. In 1946, the very first Cannes Film Festival was hosted inside the hotel’s original casino, forever cementing the Carlton’s place within global film history. That inaugural edition welcomed only eight journalists, a remarkably intimate beginning for what would eventually become the world’s most influential film festival.

For Indian travellers increasingly drawn towards cinematic tourism and culture led luxury experiences, the hotel offers the opportunity to inhabit a living piece of film history itself. Across generations of festival lore, the property has welcomed icons including Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise, further cementing its reputation as Cannes’ ultimate power address.
The property itself recently entered a new era following its extensive restoration and reopening in 2023. Led by renowned French interior architect Tristan Auer, the transformation carefully preserved the hotel’s Belle Époque spirit while introducing a softer contemporary Riviera aesthetic through redesigned suites, restored frescoes, lush courtyard gardens and one of Cannes’ largest infinity pools.

Meanwhile, the Carlton Beach Club continues to remain one of the Riviera’s most coveted social destinations, where cinema, fashion and luxury effortlessly collide against the backdrop of the Mediterranean.
