Located on the sunshine strip of Juhu with its line of luxurious hotels along the seashore, Pepper & Pint is amongst good company. Just about 250 metres away from the beach, it’s not difficult to sense an easy-going atmosphere. But, the sprawling area maintains a sense of luxury with eclectic light fixtures, full-length windows, quirky accessories, and flooring alternating between decorative tiles and wood.

This contrast is also seen in the furniture. Most tables have classy wooden chairs, while some show off floral prints in natural tones. You can also sit in the two chartreuse coloured booths that are right by the entrance. The best seats in the house, however, are the two private sitting areas on opposite sides of the open space. With plush sofas and armchairs, they are the perfect little nooks to spend hours on end catching up with old friends.

True to the establishment’s name, almost all the dishes contain a twist of pepper from the most exotic places. In the hummus, for example, a strong pepper flavour comes through. Another appetiser, a smoked paneer tikka preparation, is presented in a theatrical manner with a flurry of smoke.

The crispy chana masaledar is a fun little chickpea preparation that is sometimes served on the house with drinks. For non-vegetarians, the butter chicken nachos work surprisingly well with the flavours coming together.

Come main course, the narangi kofta and soft yet crispy lachha paratha effortlessly complement each other. The Rara ghosht is succulent pieces of mutton in a gravy that had an ideal balance of spices and flavours, without being too overpowering. An innovate dessert, the rasmalai tiramisu, is a wonderful flavour and texture combination with the sweetness of the Indian dish and the strong coffee of the Italian one coming together.

A delightful paan shot served in a glass rimmed with salt and spices brings the meal to a close. Pepper & Pint sure knows how to get the desi right.
