As we grow and age, our skin does take a hit, and we find ourselves constantly trying to battle the signs of ageing. From fine lines to wrinkles, dark spots and eye bags, these many times throw us off our game. We all want to age beautifully, and it all boils down to meticulously following an anti-ageing routine. Be it serums and night creams or face yoga and superfoods, following an anti-ageing routine is a holistic experience.

Think of your anti-ageing routine as a way of catering to your skin’s needs at different ages and replenishing the nutrients and natural abilities that our skin tends to lose as we mature. There can be multiple factors that contribute to anti-ageing, from sun damage, improper skin care, to environmental factors like air pollution. Luxebook caught up with Vibhuti Arora, Founder, House of Beauty and face yoga expert, to know more about how to combat anti-ageing.
Face Yoga and anti-ageing
While the traditional methods of creams, serums, and treatments will never cease to exist, Vibhuti Arora firmly believes in the practice of face yoga to combat anti-ageing. Face yoga is a practice that has been gaining popularity of late, from massages and facial exercises that help ease tension, tighten skin and strengthen your face muscles, and combat signs of anti-ageing. “Face Yoga – the beauty gym for your face is highly beneficial in not just reducing visible signs of ageing but also taking 5 years off your face,” says Vibhuti.
Further highlighting the importance of face yoga, she shares three age-defying face yoga exercises.
The Butterfly Squint

One of the key concern areas when it comes to anti-ageing are eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes. “Since the skin around our eyes is delicate, it is more prone to ageing. The muscle movement plus external factors like sun damage further escalates this process. The Butterfly Squint’ is ideal for correction around the under-eye lines, upper eyelid lines and crow’s feet. It also strengthens eye muscles and reduces droopiness in the upper eyelid,” said the expert.
How to do it
Place your index finger and middle finger on the outer corners of the eyes lifting the crow’s feet region.
Now create a horizontal “V” from your index and middle fingers at the edge of your eyes and place your sight at a central focus point.
Squeeze your eyes while your fingers pull the crow’s feet skin. Let the eye muscles move backwards, creating resistance. Now close your eyes and relax for 2 to 3 seconds.
Open your eyes and try to squeeze, and align your vision in the centre. Create a resistance again and release. Repeat 8 times.
Air movement
The second face yoga move Vibhuti suggests is Air Movement which helps with skin elasticity. Speaking about the benefits of the technique Arora shared, “As our skin ages, it loses collagen and elastin which gives the skin its elasticity and keeps it tight. Our body’s natural production of collagen decreases by 10% every year, after the age of 25.  Air Movement is perfect for those who want to gain the elasticity of their cheeks back and are suffering from sagging or sunken cheeks. It also results in nasolabial line reduction.”
How to do it
Fill your mouth with air (not fully – around 70-80% would suffice)
Now move the air from left to right inside the mouth without opening the lips rigorously.
Follow this to the count of 20
Now exhale through your mouth and relax for 10 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
Jaw Shaper

It’s a well-known fact that as we age our skin begins to sag, and this is one of the key reasons many people turn towards botox fillers and beauty treatments. “We tend to develop saggy skin underneath the chin aka jowl as we age. Factors such as repetitive facial movements, stress and lifestyle changes impact it.” But what if we told you there is an exercise to combat this too? Vibhuti suggests practising the Jaw Shaper exercise which is ideal for an instant jaw lift. “It is great for those who want immediate jaw definition and want to tighten loose saggy skin,” she adds further.
How to do it
Start by placing your index finger & your middle finger on half of your chin to support any loose skin.
Now place the palm of your other hand perpendicular to your chin.
Start to swipe the jowl area till the base of your ear lobe.
After reaching the earlobe, twist and tuck lifting your elbow in the air. Do this for 20 reps.
Then support the side you exercised with tw fingers supporting half of your chin. Take the flat portion of your other palm perpendicular to jowl region
Start to massage with the same sculpt-tuck and lift motion 20 times on the other side.
Ultherapy – a non-invasive anti-ageing treatment

Some of the most renowned (and common) beauty treatments for anti-ageing are botox, fillers, jaw-line enhancements, facelifts and more. Being classic anti-ageing treatments they have been omnipresent for many decades with new technological updates year after year. However, the beauty industry keeps inventing newer treatments to combat ageing and one such treatment is Ultherapy. While botox and fillers are invasive procedures, Ultherapy is a non-invasive approach to anti-ageing rituals. Being a firm believer in natural and non-invasive beauty rituals Vibhuti said, “Ultherapy is a non-invasive way to tighten the facial muscles and increase collagen production. In a nutshell, it is a micro-focused ultrasound therapy in which the ultrasound energy digs deep into the skin’s surface, although it is not a cosmetic or a surgical procedure. Another non-invasive face lifting treatment includes using House of Beauty’s Face Cup Kit which is a 100% painless suction therapy and works wonders to reduce those fine lines and wrinkles and helps in facelifting.”

So what is Ultherapy? For those who are not ready for a surgical facelift, Ultherapy, a non-invasive treatment, goes deeper to stimulate the production of your body’s collagen and elastin, for natural-looking results without surgery or downtime.   It is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive anti-ageing procedure that lifts the neck, chin and brows. As we age, collagen breaks down, resulting in loss of skin strength and elasticity. Through time-tested ultrasound technology, Ultherapy helps produce new collagen growth.  Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to go deeper than other non-invasive treatments for collagen stimulation. And it leverages traditional ultrasound imaging so Ultherapy providers can see the layers of tissue they are treating. This ensures the treatment energy is delivered to where it benefits you most.

Best anti-ageing skincare products
It is a universally known fact that collagen is the main force behind keeping skin looking young. So it is only natural to focus on purchasing beauty products that have collagen as the main ingredient. “Some effective ways to combat ageing is by using collagen-infused serums (topically) and by consuming hydrolysed collagen tablets to keep the skin youthful and healthy,” shared Arora. She further suggests regular use of sunscreen to shield our skin from photoageing which also causes brown spots or age spots on the skin.

Superfood for anti-ageing
However, if you’re a beauty maverick you probably already know that your diet plays a pivotal role. Yes, your skin is a direct reflection of what you eat. And if anti-ageing is what you wish to combat, eating ample amounts of food rich in Vitamin C is essential. Why? Because your body’s ability to retain collagen is a direct result of the amount of Vitmanic C in your body. Collagen is extremely important to maintain the youthful appearance of the skin and is highly beneficial in lubricating the skin and giving it a firm and youthful appearance. While consuming Vitamin C-rich food is possible, it may not always be sufficient. Natural plant-based foods or tablets rich in collagen and vitamin C should thus be a vital part of our diet. Some food that are rich in Vitamin C includes kidney beans, chickpeas that can be had as sprouts/hummus/in a steamed form, Okra, Spinach, Sweet Potato, Tomato, Pumpkin, Garlic and Capsicum.
