Bentley Debuts ‘Ombre by Mulliner’: A 56-Hour Masterpiece in Motion

Bentley Motors has introduced one of its most intricate paint offerings to date — ‘Ombre by Mulliner’, a breathtaking new finish that takes over 56 hours to handcraft. Revealed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week, this personal commission marks the debut of the technique on the Continental GT Speed, now available to order globally through Bentley’s retailer network.

The Ombre finish, meticulously painted by hand at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, creates a seamless transition between two colours along the car’s body. Technicians apply the fade in stages, tinting paints using traditional mixing methods to achieve a smooth and precise blend. The process requires exceptional skill, as each paint behaves uniquely on application — ensuring that no two cars will ever be identical, yet each will appear flawless to the eye.

The first showcase model fades from Topaz at the front to Windsor Blue at the rear, with the fade aligning beautifully along the car’s rear haunch line. Even the 22-inch ten-spoke wheels mirror the bodywork’s gradient — Topaz at the front and Windsor Blue at the rear — for a cohesive, artistic effect.

Inside, the Mulliner Bespoke Studio has extended the same gradient philosophy. The cabin transitions from Topaz hideson the front seats, steering wheel, and instrument panel to a darker Beluga tone at the rear, complemented by Dragonfly accents in the piping and stitching. Satin Beluga-painted veneers, visible across the centre console and instrument panel, add a tactile contrast to the otherwise colour-driven theme.

Additional highlights include Bentley’s Rotating Display, the Naim for Bentley audio system, and the Dark Chrome Interior Specification, newly introduced for the fourth-generation Continental GT.
