Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams is putting a new spin on Colombo luxury

Colombo never does anything by halves. This coastal Sri Lankan city, known for its infectious energy and its patchwork of cultures, has now taken a quantum leap into cutting edge luxury with City of Dreams.  

Rising 153 metres above sea level, a shimmering behemoth of concrete, glass, and ambition, this new kid on the skyline is more than just a landmark; it’s a microcosm of indulgence. Opened in August 2025, this urban monolith has redefined the very idea of hospitality in South Asia. Is it a hotel? A shopping haven? A high rolling gambler’s retreat? Yes, yes, and yes… plus so much more. It’s as if Colombo decided to take its effortless charm, sprinkle some high-octane glamour onto it, and stack it like a luxurious mille-feuille.

The Cinnamon Life Hotel boasts 687 sleek, sunlit rooms where Colombo’s silhouettes, the Indian Ocean’s mercurial shades, and that heady mix of city noise and sea breeze are all part of the ambience. Then there’s Nüwa by Melco Resorts, a boutique venture with 113 suites of understated elegance. It’s where privacy meets possibility, a hideaway in a city that never sleeps. But the heart of City of Dreams exists beyond the suites, in the spaces that connect indulgence with experience. My personal favourite? The bars that seem like portals to buzzier dimensions, a cleverly mixed Negroni at Gatz with Colombo’s skyline glittering below feels practically cinematic. Then there are the restaurants, each more adventurous than the next. Yoroko’s moody robatayaki is a sensory joyride, while Sapphire Dragon delivers lobster stuffed dumplings that tell a story of reinvention. Indiya delves into regional Indian cuisine, blending handcrafted spices with modern twists on classic dishes, while Quizine brings all-day dining to life with vibrant live cooking stations. Bistro des Marées charts a Mediterranean course with decadent food for an unforgettable evening. Even the retail floors pulse with urban charm; it’s shopping, yes, but with a dash of discovery. 

Colombo’s Most Versatile Playground 

You know the kind of evening that starts with a drink and then surprises you by unfolding into an entirely unexpected adventure? That’s every evening at ‘City of Dreams’. Start at Gatz, where the view of the Indian Ocean delivers a postcard moment with every sip of your margarita. As the light melts into darkness, climb up to Flux on the 24th floor, your cocktail tasting better with every fiery note of the sunset. Then there’s Dreams & Beats, the classic chameleon of the resort, casual and serene by day with its endless infinity pool, transforming into a sultry, electric nightlife destination after dusk. And we’re barely skimming the surface. With 14 restaurants and bars, poolside indulgence, lounges, and a curated nightlife ecosystem, it’s a heady mix of indulgence. Then there’s the shopping, two sprawling retail levels boasting everything from Sri Lankan treasures like Spa Ceylon and the signature t Lounge by Dilmah, to international names. Let’s just say, if you forgot your swimsuit or need a good sapphire necklace on a whim (who doesn’t?), they’ve got you covered.

They say big dreams are built brick by brick, or in this case, floor by floor. What started as ‘Cinnamon Life’ in 2014 has transformed through persistence, patience, and a pandemic into ‘City of Dreams’, an all-consuming wonder partnered with Melco. This place doesn’t just redefine Colombo, it reimagines it. Vertical, audacious, and glamorous, the development offers the city a brand new vantage point, kissing the clouds while flanked by the glittering sea below. Colombo, it seems, has found its pulse in the sky.
