Building on its proud history, Japan has established itself as a leader in the digital age. Ponant’s Japanese cruise route will take guests to the heart of this cultural crossroads, where ancient traditions meet modern innovations. Mediaeval relics, historic temples, ancestral rites and global urban centres of Japan are some of the key attractions. The French luxury line has two new cruise itineraries across Japan: the thirteen-day Odyssey in the heart of Japan’s subtropical islands and the eight-day Kyushu’s secret islands and ancestral heritage. Prices for the 13-day expedition sailing departing from Naha, Japan, on 4 March 2024 on Le Jacques-Cartier start from US$9,145. During the cruise, passengers can visit nature sites and villages on islands like Okinawa Yaeyama and Sakishima in the Ryukyu archipelago guided by a team of naturalists. However, if you want a shorter cruise option, opt for the eight-day voyage from Kagoshima to Fukuoka priced at US$5,588. There are two departures for this sailing on 20 April and 27 April 2024.

The 10-day Treasures of the Rhine will set sail between Amsterdam and Basel via Cologne, Heidelberg and Strasbourg from Dec 23. This will be the first line to operate year-round on Europe’s rivers and provide access to landmarks when there are typically fewer crowds. Prices for the Viking sailings start at US$1,980 per person if booked by 30 June 2023.  Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said: “Many of our guests have sailed the Rhine during other seasons, so we are pleased to offer a new option for those who may be interested in experiencing Europe during a quieter time of year.”
