Aesthetic, Warm and Comforting, that’s how I would describe Eve. Located in Powai’s upscale neighbourhood, Hiranandani Gardens, Eve is truly a gem that you must visit. If you’re a ‘townie’ who lives in South Bombay and don’t want to travel to Powai, then let me, as a fellow townie, tell you that the 50-minute drive was definitely worth it. The food and cocktails at Eve combined with its ambience make it a fulfilling experience.
Sublime Interiors
As Gen-Z would say, it’s giving Harry Potter meets Vintage and Boho. As you enter Eve, you face a giant spiralling staircase, which you take to head up to the restaurant’s main area. As I walked up the spiral stairs that were in front of a large, 30ft wall filled to the brim with books, it felt as if I were in a library and not a restaurant. Sumit Govind Sharma, Founder says, “With the library, greenery, calm ambience and cuisines we’ve built an inclusive space for anyone who wishes to spend some quality time with friends or themselves, because as we all know a great book and a steaming cup of coffee always makes for the best company.”
The spiral staircase leads to a 7000 sqft space with an island bar, wooden flooring, cane-weaved seating, regal chandeliers, fabric lamps and pretty corners that take your breath away. Decorated elegantly with splashes of bright colour, the airy space features the natural landscapes and diversity with a combination of wood, plants, ceramics and cane. The place gives you a sense of comfort, and a feeling of home that makes you stay – aiming to offer a more accessible, friendlier space for people to socialise at. Eve’s beautiful interiors have been designed by the Mumbai-based firm, KNS Architects alongside Eve founder Nikita Harisinghani.
Mouth Watering Food
At Eve, things just get better and better. In case you’re heading to Eve for lunch, then I suggest you have a very light breakfast so you can gorge on their mouth-watering menu. The visionaries behind Eve believe in providing a rich experience in a sustainable manner. The produce & ingredient forward menu is a reflection of the same, from the beautifully crafted salads to the sous vide cooking methodology and a zero-waste policy to support the local communities, the innovative menu is designed to promote seafood diversity, sustainable fisheries, and healthy oceans, whilst sourcing only the highest quality ingredients to create vibrant and exciting culinary delights.
Chef Sanket More says, “Experimenting and balancing the flavours is the key to a great dish. Every country and region has a huge variety of predominant ingredients and a restaurant is a place where your staff is usually a mix of eclectic people covering a different part of the country and working at different places, so getting inspired while taking the briefings and brainstorming on a variety of ingredients and mixing things is a fun a way to keep your creative juices flowing.”
My lunch date and I started our meal with Cream Cheese Chicken with crackling spinach. I won’t lie, it did look scary at first, seeing how green the plate was, but just one bite into the juicy chicken sent me to heaven! It wasn’t too heavy and was packed with a healthy spinach flavour. Next up was the Eve in-house special- Corny Pink Pepper Chicken. Yes, Pink Chicken! This delicious treat was a chicken tikka infused with pink peppercorn and served with homemade chutney.
My lunch date and I both being sushi fans, decided to try out their sushi menu. We were suggested to try out the Chicken Katsu. It had Teriyaki, Crumb fried chicken or Katsu, Guac, Blanched asparagus and green jalapenos. It was an explosion of flavours. The crunchy katsu combined with the soft and fragrant rice topped with a little bit of wasabi made me sink into my chair.
Nearly stuffed, we still had a few dishes left. After devouring the Katsu sushi, we decided to try something from their seafood selection. We had the Sichuan Prawns with lemongrass drizzle, burnt garlic and brioche buns. This dish was fragrant because of the lemongrass and had a hint of heat from the Sichuan. The brioche buns were soft and fluffy and had Eve’s logo engraved on them. By this point, my companion and I were stuffed to the brim but we couldn’t leave out the main course and dessert. For our main course, we opted for a vegetarian option and had the Edamame and Blue pea burnt garlic rice. As for dessert, which I ate alone, I went for the Seasonal Panna Cota which was creamy and jiggly.
Boozy Cocktails
As I said, things just get better and better. The food definitely awestruck my companion and me, but the cocktails left us speechless. My favourite was the Tira-Miss-You, which has Vodka, Baileys, Tiramisu Essence, Espresso and Rose Dust. Another was Treasure of France which had foam at the top making it look a bit whimsical and fun. It’s a mixture of Gin, Vanilla, Passion Fruit, Citrus, Sparkling Wine and Darjeeling Tea Air.
The in-house mixologist Sachin Yadav, personal recommendations are – Spice Trade which is inspired by Indian spices and has gin infused with pink peppercorn, Kashmiri Kawa Tea Fresh made with green apple, clarified milk, and rose dust glitter. But if you want to go old-school and give the good ol’ signature cocktails a try then Eves Mule made with vodka, cucumber, basil, elderflower, and ginger ale will help you make some new (drunken) memories or the Essence of Life made with gin infused with lemongrass, in-house kaffir lime liqueur, and tonic is sure to work wonders!
