Fabergé, the iconic artist jewellers, famous for their Imperial eggs, has announced a Game of Thrones collaboration with Warner Bros, celebrating the popular series’ 10th anniversary. Fabergé’s is creating a one-of-a-kind GOT-themed egg.
A surprising collaboration
The GOT egg has been co-designed by Fabergé and Michele Clapton, the Emmy and BAFTA-winning costume designer of Game of Thrones. “This larger-than-life TV series captured the hearts of many with its riveting storyline and stunning imagery. The costume designs were exquisite, and royalty and dragons had a big part in the story. All this provided a wealth of inspiration to us for creating a jewelled work of art,” says Liisa Tallgren, Head Designer, Fabergé.
Tallgren says that the collaboration has received a positive response and it is lovely to see how in this digital era people are still fascinated by the very traditional craft of jewellers.
Design
Tallgren worked closely with Michele Clapton to create an intricate design, which tells the tale of the Mother of Dragons’ quest to take her place on the Iron Throne.
“The design references Daenerys Targaryen’s incredible journey and the importance of colour within her costumes, her passion for her dragons, and the way she portrayed messages via her jewellery throughout her journey on the show. References from the textures of the dragons and their iconic eggs were used to inform the surfaces of this egg objet,” says Michele Clapton.
Jewels
Explaining the jewels in the designs, Fabergé’s Tallgren shares that on the outside, the jewelled egg has clusters of diamonds in different sizes, mixed with faceted rainbow moonstones. The milky transparency and the flash of blue in rainbow moonstones softens the appearance of diamond pavé and adds subtle variation.
Continuing Fabergé’s tradition of combining the expected with the unexpected, this exquisite piece has a surprise element too! The bespoke egg, which is reminiscent of Daenerys’ dragon eggs opens to reveal a crown that sits majestically atop a glistening crystal base. This is a miniature version of the crown that would have been presented to Daenerys should she have held the Iron Throne.

“Inside the egg there is a section cut out in the form of a scale pattern in blackened gold that is set with rubies at the bottom, graduating to pink sapphires and white diamonds at the top. Pear-shaped rubies are set within the scale pattern. The central stage is taken by a larger pear-shaped Gemfields ruby that is set in rose gold within the diamond set and blackened gold crown that sits on a crystal platform,” shares Fabergé’s Tallgren.
“I knew instantly what the secret gift should be, there was never a doubt; it had to be the crown that Daenerys believed throughout her life was her destiny. With the crown, I referenced her dragons, their wings sweeping around protecting the beautiful Gemfields ruby that represents Daenerys, her house colour, and her fierce quest to rule,” says Michele Clapton.
