When Miley Cyrus first rocked the conventionally ugly looking skirt layered over pants trend, back in the ’90s, it created a lot of chatter in the fashion world. Then, the IT fashion girls of the Y2K era, Katie Holmes, and Lizzie Mcquire went ahead to ace this trend with their own twist. Cut to 2023, skirts were paired over pants at the fashion shows of Chanel, Fendi, and Givenchy at the Milan Fashion Week 2023.

The resurgence of big shoulders and shoulder pads is evident in the fashion landscape for 2023. Featured in Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Luar, Erdem, David Koma, and Annakiki, the exaggerated graphic shoulders collections not just resonates with winter aesthetics, but also exudes confidence and a sense of empowerment.

Paying homage to the 90s fashion, the timeless tartan pattern made a staging comeback in the Fall/Winter 2023-24 Fashion Week. While Thom Browne presented oversized tartan tweed coats adorned with bold stripes in New York, Burberry, under the creative direction of Daniel Lee, gave spotlight to the iconic pattern through various silhouettes, featuring vibrant pops of colours such as pink and purple or yellow and electric blue.
Denim On Denim

This iconic pairing of denim on denim, once deemed a fashion faux pas, is now a celebrated look that exudes a touch of rebellious flair and is turning heads on and off the runway. Redefining the classic Canadian tuxedo with a hint of modernity, Ami, Y/Project, and Versace showcased an amalgamation of bleached, raw, deconstructed, or showcased with sharp tailoring, jeans that were the season’s ultimate statement.
Lacework FTW

Lacework, once reserved for the delicate and dainty, has undergone a modern revival and asserted itself as a powerful and versatile trend in contemporary fashion.  Whether it’s a lace-trimmed blouse paired with leather pants or a lace-embellished jumpsuit, this trend effortlessly marries sophistication with a contemporary edge. At the 2023 Fashion week, brands like Gucci and Balenciaga celebrated the allure of sheer elements and impeccable lace artistry, exclusively in black.
