Sartorially speaking, If Prada is the minimalist, sophisticated older sibling then Miu Miu is the younger sister with an air of fantasy and playfulness. The Italian fashion house’s heiress and creative chief, Miuccia Prada, founded Miu Miu as her passion project in 1993, which in no time became a wardrobe staple for the ‘It’ girls of the new age.
Over the years, trendsetters including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner and recently, Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana on screen (in Netflix’s The Crown), have sported Miu Miu’s edgy designs.
Staying one step ahead in the luxury fashion sphere, last year, Miu Miu launched a special project of giving new life to pre-loved clothes. Dubbed ‘Upcycled by Miu Miu’, its first edition featured 80 vintage, pre-worn outfits, reworked and redesigned into unique, one-off pieces, laden with the house’s signature hand-embellished details.
For its second such edit in 2021, Miu Miu has collaborated with Levi’s on a refreshing, new collection of refashioned vintage denim. Picked from the denim maker’s archive, the iconic Levi’s 501 jeans from 1870s and the classic old trucker jacket from the 1960s are given Miu Miu’s experimental, glamorous touch.
The Miu Miu x Levi’s campaign stars Kate Moss’s daughter and model Lila Moss, Emma Corrin and Georgia Palmer, each modelling bespoke, renewed denim designs. Miu Miu’s re-tailored Levi’s is possibly denim never seen (and worn) before.
The jeans and the jackets flaunt a new-found life, fully decked with diamanté, gemstones, crystals and sequinned floral handiwork.
Corrin looks all bold and stylish in Levi’s trucker jacket, reimagined in duchess satin finish and hand-embellished puff sleeves, matched with a chic mesh blouse underneath. Her jeans, on both sides of the pockets, are speckled with sparkly pink stones.
From top to bottom, Palmer sports a black leather-patch Levi’s jacket and jeans with twinning red and white motifs all over. While Moss’s top jacket seems to have been transformed into a hot, diamanté -detailed piece that contrasts well with her gauzy, off-white mesh blouse.
