Christie’s will auction three jewellery pieces by famed designer Anna Hu from July 3 – 13. The proceeds from the sale will go towards the welfare of COVID-19 healthcare workers.
Anna Hu, known for seamlessly blending Eastern and Western aesthetics in her nature-inspired creation, is specially creating these unique pieces for the charity project. The necklace, earrings and ring set in white and red gold are accented with rich brown diamonds extracted by Alrosa in Yakutia, a region in the Siberian Far East. What’s unique about the necklace is that it is shaped like a heart. The pieces are in the finishing stages.
The diamonds have been donated by Alrosa, one of the largest diamond mining companies in the world as part of their new social responsibility initiative Diamonds That Care. The idea behind it is that every diamond should help those in need.

The auction is being organised by the non-profit charitable organisation Diamonds Do Good, previously knows as the Diamond Empowerment Fund.
“We are living in a different world, where old divides are no longer important because we all face the same threat. By working with Christie’s, which operates in all the regions affected by the Coronavirus, and the brilliant Chinese jewelry artist Anna Hu, we are raising funds for a US-based charitable organisation supporting activities in various countries. This project is a living example of how countries and stakeholders can unite in their efforts to help those in need,” said Sergey Ivanov, CEO of Alrosa.
“Many people are in distress, and no one can remain indifferent to this pandemic. The world needs positivity, empathy, a sense of support, care and love. I hope to express all these feelings in my three pieces of jewellery. I was inspired and grateful to have received the opportunity to work on something larger than simply beautiful jewelry, something meaningful and with heart,” Anna Hu commented.

Hu is no stranger to jewellery auctions. She broke the worldwide auction record for the highest price achieved for a contemporary Chinese jewellery creation at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction in Hong Kong on October 7, 2019.
“Anna Hu’s works are characterized by elegant forms and colour combinations. They are rarely sold at auction and when her pieces come to the secondary market, demand is high. As an artisan jeweler, Anna produces no more than thirty pieces a year, each a unique creation. Her involvement will create international excitement and we are pleased to offer our leading online platform and engage with our international clients to bid for this worthy cause,” said Max Fawcett, Christie’s Jewelry Specialist.
