Brighten your wardrobe with these stylish monsoon must-haves

Schenelle Dsouza
One of the most beloved seasons, the monsoon barely inspires new fashion trends. Dull colours and solid patterns continue to remain a safe choice for many. Fret not, if the rains have dampened the fashionista in you; LuxeBook has curated a list of fashionable must-haves that will not only brighten your monsoon wardrobe but also add a glam quotient to your attire.
Rain protection
One of the first and most important bits of any monsoon wardrobe is rain protective wear, aka umbrellas, ponchos, raincoats and windcheaters. For the longest time, these only came in the darkest and most dull hues. However, brands have since improvised, merging striking prints with vibrant colours that are a perfect contrast to the gloomy weather.

Bottega Veneta’s Daniel Lee believes truly great design must have a subversive element to it. This trench coat is cut from crinkled glossed leather in a vibrant ‘candy’ pink hue and traced with strategically placed snaps. The triangular buckle is a subtle reference to the ‘V’ in the brand’s name.

Crafted in gold-tone technical taffeta jacquard with the Toile de Jouy motif, it features a zip closure, hood and a ‘CHRISTIAN DIOR’ signature flap on the back. The oversized silhouette will complement any of the season’s casual outfits.

Creating a series of hybrid looks, the umbrella juxtaposes adidas’ three white stripes with Gucci’s signature interlocking G and trefoil print. In typical Gucci style, the umbrella gets a G-carved Birchwood handle.

Made with 100 per cent polyester, the umbrella features the brand’s signature Barocco print, adding the perfect punch of colour your monsoon closet. The design also boasts a classic handle with a unique colour fade effect.
Bags
Regardless of the season or event, bags are an all year round necessity. When it comes to the rains, water resistant bags are an obvious choice, however the choice bag and material has varied. For a while now, transparent totes with designer monograms were part of the monsoon must haves trend. Several brands continue to create their own versions of the transparent tote, while others moved on from it, curating bags that are not only water resistant but also fashionable.

What’s more stylish than a rainbow tinted bag during the monsoons? A stylish updated version of the transparent tote, this bag from Akris Ai combines innovation and artistic interpretation. The Hibiscus Liquid Light print is inspired by the photographic works of Swiss artist Katalin Deér, while the modern plexi material makes this Ai an exceptionally light handbag while keeping it elegant. Another perk is that the bag can be carried in not one but three different ways. A regular rectangular tote, when opened; a Pure Trapezoid Tote, with the corners folded inside and secured with the turn lock; and the signature tote, with the corners folded on the outside and closed with the turn lock.

Chamar Studio’s Bora collection was a result of artist-activist Sudheer Rajbhar’s search for a replacement for leather. When the government of India banned beef, it rendered several leather workers from Dalit and Muslim communities unemployed. The term ‘Bora’ is the name of jute bags used to pack stuff. The Bora collection saw a new rendition of the infamous waterproof bag, calling it the Bora Strap. Handcrafted from recycled rubber and other waste, the oversized bag has a vibrant colour that complements daily looks while being functional and ethical at the same time.
