Swiss watchmaker Rado’s luxurious True Square Collection has a new addition— True Square “Over the Abyss”. Designed in collaboration with New Delhi artist duo Thukral and Tagra, the timepiece centres our temporality as individuals whilst highlighting the importance of connecting with others.
Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra’s work focuses on people’s relationships towards their communities, which is why their work is often described as a social design. The duo work towards understanding their existence while questioning the status quo, thus naming their work: Over the Abyss.
The duo, along with Rado’s Master of Materials created a unique timepiece that superimposes the local time of the wearer in different global time zones. These time zones are symbolized by 37 different hands, painted in shades of blue and pink, making the display look like captivating fireworks. The local time is indicated by two discrete but mighty SuperLuminova dots.
The captivating dial with colour strikes is encapsulated by a 38mm matt blue high-tech square shape ceramic case with gently rounded corners. The watch pays an homage to Rado’s iconic shape from the 70s and is updated for the 21st century. The case back features a painting by the duo called Dominus Aeries that explores visions from the future with references from the past. Hence, both the front and back of the watch feature beautiful art expressions by Thukral and Tagra.
Through the True Square Over the Abyss, Rado along with Thukral and Tagra, aim to connect people through a universal timepiece that is unique, smooth, comfortable as well as durable.
