Fashion trends that ruled 2022

2022 is about to come to an end and it’s fair to say that it’s been a memorable year, especially for the fashion industry. From Bella Hadid’s stunning performance at the Copernj show to everyone’s raging obsession with baguette bags. The year has definitely seen a variety of trends come and go in the blink of an eye. Here’s a rundown of the best fashion trends that ruled 2022.
Y2K

It is without a doubt, that Y2K was one of the fashion trends that ruled 2022. And some of the greatest trends of the late 1990s and early 2000s are reflected in Y2K fashion. Bright colours and whimsical aesthetics are combined with 2000 pop culture to produce an aggressively maximalist appearance. You may wear anything you want, whether it’s a miniskirt or a pair of dark denim jeans, chunky shoes, or a pair of platform heels. To express yourself as brightly as you can is the aim of Y2K fashion.
Barbie Core

Who would have thought Hot Pink would be the ‘it thing’? The iconic pigment, known as Valentino Pink PP (after the fashion house’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli), has been worn by celebrities on red carpets and festival stages alike. Latex tiny dresses and petite fit-and-flares are among the silhouettes, with details like feathers and sparkles—a Barbie staple. Shoes ranging from jelly block heels to ultra-high pumps are a must. Plastic hair clips and holographic and colourful accessories are also great accents to incorporate the trend.
Corsets

The corset is no longer organ-crushing, dizzying, waist training, and burlesque. The corset from 2022 is more akin to a bustier top, and it’s all about feeling empowered, confident, and having a tonne of fun rather than being constrictive or achieving some ‘perfect’ body type. Furthermore, wearing your underpants as outerwear is the epitome of sexiness.

In 2022, corset designs ranged from vibrant hues to metallics and edgy designs. It may be worn as a top with low-slung slacks, tiny skirts, cargo pants, or as a coordinated set.
Ballet Flats

Similar to the Y2K renaissance, ballet flats are making a comeback with vintage clothing. Perhaps it’s the simple slip-on style, or perhaps it’s the tiny bow on the more traditional pairs’ noses that made these shoes reappear. The shoe’s star power, however, is powerful with the right aesthetic, which accounts for its current resurgence as one of the top shoe trends of the season. But if you wish to amp up the glam factor opt for embellished ballets flats!
Micro Bags

Simon Porte, the designer behind Jacquemus was the first to introduce micro bags in 2017 with the ‘Le Chiquito’ bag. And today, we’ve gone from mini to micro bags! A micro bag is fairly self-explanatory and will probably only hold a few necessities like your keys, a credit card, and maybe a lip balm. The runway has been covered with the teeny-tiny trend, especially at the shows by the French label Jacquemus, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and more!
Cutouts

No, we don’t mean paper cutouts but cut-out dresses. Cutouts have been the hottest style this year, which is unexpectedly a highly fashionable approach to showing a bit of skin. Many celebrities and influencers have accessorized the fad in the most daring and imaginative ways. Including dresses and offset skin-baring cords. And the last leg of 2022 even saw the emergence of cut-out trousers!
