IHG’s next luxury move is a 350-key InterContinental in Goregaon

Luxury in Mumbai has long been associated with a familiar set of addresses. The sea facing icons of South Mumbai, the glamour of Bandra and the corporate energy of Lower Parel have traditionally defined the narrative. But Mumbai, just like the unpredictable and agonising pre-monsoon weather is changing. And luxury, inevitably is changing with it.

The latest sign of that shift comes with the announcement of InterContinental Mumbai Goregaon, a 350 key luxury hotel set to open in 2030. For years, Goregaon was viewed primarily as a commercial extension of Mumbai’s western suburbs. Today, it is home to corporate headquarters, media and entertainment hubs, luxury residences and an increasingly affluent population that wants world class experiences closer to where they live and work. Luxury hospitality brands are indeed opting to pay attention.

As one of the world’s most recognisable luxury hotel brands, InterContinental has built its reputation on culturally immersive travel, elevated service and globally inspired experiences. Its decision to establish a presence in Goregaon reflects a broader industry trend where luxury is following new centres of economic growth rather than remaining tied to traditional hospitality districts.

Strategically positioned between Andheri and Malad, the hotel will feature 350 guest rooms, including 70 suites, alongside five dining destinations, extensive wellness facilities, a luxury spa, swimming pool and one of the city’s largest event spaces. Yet the real story lies beyond the numbers.

The modern luxury traveller is now seeking convenience without compromise. Business executives want seamless access to commercial districts. Leisure travellers expect destination dining, wellness and cultural experiences under one roof.

This is precisely where Goregaon finds itself today. As Mumbai’s commercial centre of gravity continues to move north, the district has evolved into a powerful intersection of business, luxury living and connectivity. For hospitality brands, it offers access to a growing audience of domestic and international travellers who expect luxury to be embedded within their daily lives rather than reserved for occasional escapes.

Commenting on the signing, Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, says, We are delighted to partner with Zon Hotels (Mumbai) Private Limited to bring InterContinental Mumbai Goregaon to the city. Mumbai continues to demonstrate strong demand across both business and leisure travel, and Goregaon’s emergence as a growing commercial corridor makes it an ideal location to expand our luxury portfolio.”

For IHG Hotels & Resorts, which already operates multiple luxury and lifestyle brands across India, the signing represents another milestone in its long term vision for the country. With nearly 100 hotels in the pipeline across various segments, India continues to be one of the group’s most strategically important growth markets.
