Inside DS Group’s ₹1,000-crore bet on India’s luxury hospitality future

As affluent domestic travellers, destination weddings, large-scale conventions and international arrivals continue to outpace luxury hotel supply, developers are racing to bridge the gap. The latest to join the wave is the Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, which has announced a ₹400-crore partnership with Marriott International to introduce W Hotels to Delhi NCR, marking another milestone in the conglomerate’s ambitious ₹1,000-crore hospitality expansion.

The upcoming 200-room W Hotel, slated to open in the second half of 2027, will be strategically located near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Operated under Marriott International’s globally recognised luxury lifestyle brand, the property is expected to cater to a new generation of travellers seeking design-led stays, vibrant social spaces and immersive culinary experiences rather than traditional five-star hospitality.

For DS Group, whose hospitality portfolio already includes brands such as Marriott, Radisson and Crowne Plaza, the project is part of a much larger vision. The company has committed ₹1,000 crore towards expanding its hospitality business over the coming years, with plans to build a diversified portfolio of luxury and upscale hotels across key Indian markets. The group has also been strengthening its presence in the Northeast through the expansion of Radisson Blu Guwahati, underscoring its long-term bet on India’s growing appetite for premium travel experiences.

The timing is significant, as India’s luxury hotel market has been witnessing unprecedented demand, fuelled by high-spending domestic travellers, a resurgence in inbound tourism, and a thriving weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sector. Yet, new luxury hotel supply has struggled to keep pace, particularly in gateway cities such as Delhi NCR, where occupancy levels and average room rates have remained consistently robust.

W Hotels’ arrival also reflects the evolution of luxury hospitality itself. With its bold aesthetic and lifestyle-first approach, the brand is poised to bring a fresh dimension to Delhi NCR’s hospitality landscape while further cementing the region’s position as one of India’s most competitive luxury hotel markets.
