Range Rover to debut its first-ever Electric Sedan
For more than five decades, Range Rover has been synonymous with commanding SUVs that are in their own league. Now, in one of the brand’s biggest departures since its inception in 1970, it is venturing into uncharted territory with the Range Rover GT – its first-ever grand tourer and the closest the marque has come to building a luxury sedan.
Revealed as the fifth member of the Range Rover family, the GT swaps the upright silhouette of the brand’s SUVs for elegant coupé-like proportions while retaining the capability that has long defined the badge. The new model is positioned as a continent-crossing grand tourer.
The GT is the first Range Rover to be underpinned by Jaguar Land Rover’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), a dedicated EV platform engineered for the brand’s next generation of electric vehicles. Initially launching as a battery-electric vehicle, the platform has also been designed to accommodate hybrid powertrains later in the model’s lifecycle. While Range Rover has yet to reveal performance figures, battery capacity or driving range, the EMA architecture supports 800-volt ultra-fast charging.
Inside, the GT marks a dramatic evolution of Range Rover’s design language. The cabin embraces a minimalist aesthetic centred around a single floating touchscreen paired with a slim digital driver display. There are hidden air vents that stretch seamlessly across the dashboard, while speakers disappear beneath woven textile surfaces. The rear cabin has been designed with a luxurious four-seat layout and class-leading second-row legroom, reinforcing its grand touring credentials.
Although the exterior remains partially concealed beneath camouflage, its silhouette reveals the most aerodynamic and car-like Range Rover ever created. The fastback roofline, lower stance and elongated proportions position it closer to a luxury GT than a conventional SUV, while still promising the versatility and all-weather confidence associated with the brand. According to Range Rover, it is intended to deliver “beautiful and engaging GT poise” alongside the breadth of capability that has become its hallmark.
Production of the Range Rover GT will take place at JLR’s Halewood facility in the UK, where it will be built alongside internal combustion and hybrid models as part of the company’s wider Reimagine strategy. Prototype vehicles are currently undergoing final global testing, with a full reveal (including performance specifications, pricing and market availability) expected later this year before deliveries begin in 2027.
