The Christmas tree has been taken down from the loft and decorated with bells, tinsel and ornaments. The fairly lights are draped on the tree and switched on to bring a festive glow to the room, and finally, it is crowned with a twinkling golden star.
Placing a star atop the tree might seem like a Christmas tradition you don’t think twice about. But what’s the story behind it?
The tradition has its origins in the Christmas story from the New Testament. According to the gospels of Matthew, the Star of Bethlehem magically appeared in the sky and guided the Magi or three wise men from the East to baby Jesus in Bethlehem. They gifted baby Jesus, gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The Christmas star symbolises high hopes for good fortune and for reaching above oneself as well as high ideals.
The celestial symbol has often found its way into jewellery. Carry the hopes and dreams into 2021 with these star-inspired baubles.
