Mercedes Maybach S-Class launched in India

In one of the biggest luxury automobile launches in the country, Mercedes-Benz has stayed on top of luxury with some of the most lavish car models in the world. Staying true to this very trait, Mercedes has unveiled the 2022 Mercedes Maybach S-Class limousine in two variants S 580 and S 680 costing ₹2.5 crore and ₹3.2 crore respectively (both ex-showroom).

Outdoing the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the new Mercedes Maybach S-Class is far more luxurious and spacious. Among the many updates, the most noticeable changes include a longer wheelbase of 180mm changing the overall length of the car to 5.5 metres, a redesigned bumper with a chromed fin, and the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with the word ‘Maybach’ elegantly integrated into it.

What’s new
The vehicle also gets a new set of wheels available in 19, 20 and 21-inch alloy wheels which are exclusively designed and will be restricted to this particular model. The rear doors can be operated electrically, from the outside and the driver’s seat as well.

The iconic Maybach logo is highlighted on the now upright C-pillar, which comes with a fixed quarterlight and high-quality surround that seamlessly blends into the side trim.

Automatic gearbox
The new S-Class comes with two unique engine options, a 4.0-litre V8 (S 580) twin-turbocharged engine fitted with the EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid technology; and a more powerful 6.0-litre V12 (S 680). The S 580 powers 503hp and 700Nm of peak torque. The mild-hybrid system offers an additional boost of up to 20hp and 200Nm under hard acceleration.

The S 680 on the other hand powers 612hp and 900Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard with power being sent to all four wheels, going from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250kmph.

The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is based on the completely new interior design of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, finished in wood inserts with Maybach-theme graphics for the MBUX infotainment system.

With the extended length of the vehicle, the Maybach S-Class offers ample space by the rear seats. Exquisite Nappa leather finished seats takes the centre stage with a new progressive diamond pattern and a double seam. The backrests on the front seats are encased in high-quality wood, while the rear seats get individually adjustable bucket seats separated by a full-floor length console available in the S 680.

Aside from these, a multi-contour massage for every seat with seat ventilation, heated armrests adaptive rear ambient lighting, and a calf massager for the rear seat footrest are some of the exciting new functions.
High-tech features
The Maybach S-Class gets the new-generation MBUX infotainment system that includes up to five display screens.

These include a 12.8-inch display with OLED technology at the front and centre, a 12.3-inch 3D driver display with three-dimensional representation, two 11.6-inch rear-seat entertainment monitors, and a removable tablet nestled between the rear seats.

Another fascinating feature is the level 2 Autonomous Driving with Evasive Steering Assist and Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function. A first for any car in India. Putting safety first, the car comes with 13 airbags which include PRE-SAFE, belt bags, rear airbags and seat cushion airbags.
