The luxury industry had quite a lot going on last week. While Mercedes made strides with its new and improved EQS electric SUV, the much-awaited fashion event of the year announced its theme for the Met Gala 2022, not forgetting the Queen of England, who got her very own Barbie to celebrate 75 years on the throne of England.

Adding to its line-up of electric vehicles, Mercedes unveiled the new all-electric EQS SUV. The new design is available in one rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+, and two all-wheel-drive variants, EQS450 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC. The EQS 450+, and EQS450 4MATIC produce the same power levels, 355bhp and 568Nm of torque, while the EQS 580 4MATIC can produce a massive 536bhp and 858Nm of torque. The sleek curved exteriors are complemented by a massive 55-inch MBUX hyper screen, pore ash wood trims with stainless steel inlays and a 7-seater interior that can be adjusted for additional space.

In other luxury news, fashion’s biggest event, the Met Gala is all set to take place on May 2. While the guest list might be a top-secret, the Met has revealed the theme of the season, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which has been classified as Gilded Glamour by The New York Times, hinting at an overdrive of gold on the red carpet this year. Additionally, it was also revealed that the Met Gala will be co-hosted by Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, and Adam Mosseri serving as advisors onboard. 
Indian luxury handbag brand ‘Aranyani’ launched in New York

Indian luxury handbag brand Aranyani made its global debut in New York. Aranyani which means ‘goddess of the forest’ in Sanskrit, was showcased at a special event organised at the Consulate General of India in New York, as part of efforts to take Indian products to the global stage and raise India’s export profile.

American toy company Mattel which owns the popular and loved Barbie, celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a special tribute. The Tribute Collection Barbie Doll was created in the exact likeness of Her Majesty. The doll is dressed in a white gown, with a royal blue sash also known as a riband and a tiara inspired by Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara, which Queen Elizabeth wore on her own wedding day. The doll which retails for 75 USD, was released on the Queen’s 96th birthday on April 21 and was sold out immediately.  
Rare 1988 Macallan Whisky cask to fetch more than USD 500,000 at auction

Rare and forgotten (literally), a 1988 Macallan Whiskey was discovered at the Macallan Distillery in Moray, Scotland. Originally purchased for a mere 6,500 USD, the cask was forgotten by the buyer who lived outside Scotland and left it to mature for 34 years. Today, the 374-litre cask of single malt Scotch yields about 534 bottles of single malt whisky, hiking the price of each to at least $1,174,800, according to Whisky Hammer, the auction house hosting the Macallan auction.

Reliance Industries has been rapidly growing its stakes in the fashion industry with brands like Reliance Trends and Ajio, and designer labels like Manish Malhotra and Abraham &Thakore. Adding to these, their most recent play is a major stake in designer duo Abu Jani& Sandeep Khosla designer label. Investing a 51% stake, the brand is committed to championing Indian artisans and their craftsmanship. This renewed focus will enable the brand to position India as a creator of the finest, competing with the finest across the globe. 
Sydney Sweeney named Tory Burch’s brand ambassador

After Barbie Ferreira, Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria grabbed the title of brand ambassador for Tory Burch handbags and shoes. Speaking about the opportunity, Sweeney said, “I’m so excited to partner with Tory Burch as her brand ambassador. I’ve been a fan of her clothing and accessories for years, and I admire her tireless work to support women. I’m inspired not only by Tory’s vision and the business she has built, but also by her kindness and philanthropy. I am so looking forward to the beautiful partnership and meaningful conversations to come.” To this Burch added, Burch instantly. “Sydney is one of the most talented and relevant young actors working today, but I am equally inspired by her curiosity and confidence. She is unapologetic and empowered in her approach to acting and business. I am thrilled to start working together.” 
Tarun Tahiliani opens flagship store in Mumbai

Renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani opened his first flagship boutique in Mumbai’s historic Ballard Estate. His second store in India altogether, Tarun Tahiliani’s Mumbai boutique sits well lit-up inside the Dubash House. The luxurious space is decorated with the designer’s latest collection, India Modern, in addition to his couture and wedding collections, jewellery and handbags.
