NFTs or Non-Fungible Token are widely popular today. From fashion houses like Gucci and Louis Vuitton to automobile companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini, brands across the world have designed their own NFTs in the form of artworks, bottles of liquor, and even jewellery. And now, Bologna-based luxury furniture company Visionnaire has entered the metaverse with the launch of its Visionnaire NFT.
Launched on April 1, at the 26th edition of Miart – an international modern and contemporary art fair in Milan, the Visionnaire NFT expressed the brand’s ongoing relationship and dialogue with the avant-garde. Partnering with internationally renowned artist Jonathan Monaghan, the project investigates the innovative design methods granted by Non-Fungible Tokens in the luxury interior design market.
A renowned American artist, Jonathan Monaghan works on the relationship between physical sculpture and 3D animation to create objects and narratives outside the conventional language of contemporaneity. Monaghan was an early adopter of NFTs, using the bitcoin blockchain to authenticate digital artworks as early as 2013. Since then Jonathan has been active in the crypto-art space, including being featured at the launch of crypto.com’s NFT platform.
Apollo de Belvedere
After his exhibition at the Sundance Film Festival, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Monaghan felt it best to partner with Visionnaire to recreate a digital design of the masterpiece Apollo del Belvedere which currently sits at the Vatican Museum in Rome.
Carved in Carrara marble, the life-size bust bears resemblance to capitonné leather. This juxtaposition of the softness of imagined leather with the cool hardness of the marble is a study in contrasts that made the work famous: softness and hardness, virtual and physical, past and future.
The drop of 3 video NFT “teasers” happened on March 28th, 2022 on the marketplace Foundation, one of the main digital platforms for artists, curators and collectors in the new creative economy. The sculpture will be displayed at the Wunderkammer in June ‘22 and will be put on sale together with a dedicated NFT “plus” on the occasion of the 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile di Milano.
Additionally, Visionnaire also released a striking nature-inspired capsule collection called Starlight.
Developed inside the maison, under the creative direction of Eleonore Cavalli, the collection outlines a metropolitan and emotional lifestyle. Designed by Fabio Bonfà, this collection’s inspiration comes from nature in its fullest translation into universal symbols.
The collection taps into the symbolism of the moon gate’s cyclical perfection— a circular opening in a wall that is aesthetically incorporated into Chinese architecture.
Designed especially for metropolitan apartments, the collection is full of curved, enveloping forms, made of soft volumes and compact sizes and avoiding sharp corners and edges in favour of an organic aesthetic packed with details.
Starlight showcases Visionnaire’s ability to create unique projects, reflecting the company’s DNA, but also a talent for absorbing the symbols and images of the countries in which the firm operates, translating them into objects with a vividly unique identity.
Starlight is a capsule collection that touches on all the spaces of the home, starting with the living zones all the way to the definition of new artistic subjects by Michele Astolfi, including the “Araba Fenice”, a legendary figure that represents beauty, renewal and longevity.
