Powertrain
The new EQS will be available in two variants – EQS 450+, a rear-wheel-drive with a single-motor powertrain that can produce up to 355bhp and 568Nm of torque; EQS450 4Matic, an all-wheel-drive that produces the same power levels as the EQS450+; and EQS 580 4MATIC, another all-wheel drive with two motors, one on each axle, capable of producing a massive 536bhp and 858Nm of torque.
Power is provided by a 107.8kWh battery which has a range between 535 and 659km. The vehicle is said to be able to travel somewhere between 506 to 613 kilometres on a single charge. Mercedes also fitted a DC fast charging system on board with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW. This means that in a matter of 31 minutes, the car can be recharged from a mere 10% to 80% which offers a range of up to 250 kilometres based on the WLTP range.
Seamless design
The first all-electric premium SUV from Mercedes-EQ, the innovative design of the EQS SUV is said to be based on new vehicle architecture with carefully modelled surfaces and a seamless flow of design with reduced visible joints.

While the new EQS shares resemblance with some of Mercedes’ previous Sedans, its most obvious difference is the shape and size, which is much taller and bigger. Unlike a typical SUV, the EQS has a less boxy, more curvy shape. In terms of size, the new model stands at 68 inches tall, 77 inches wide and 202 inches long.

Among the many highlights, the news EQS gets an exclusive deep black radiator grille fitted with LED lighting, seamless overlapping bonnet, 22-inch light-alloy wheels available in twin-spoke and multi-spoke designs, and a rear light band with LED lamps shaped like a 3D helix design. An optional sleek sliding sunroof is also made available in the new SUV.

Sleek interiors
The MBUX hyper screen is now a dominating trait of most Mercedes models today. However, the EQS SUV has by far one of the largest screens, spanning 55 inches across the dashboard. This includes the three displays: a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, a 77-inch head-up display and a 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger.

Offering space for up to seven passengers, the three rows of seats have been spaced out intelligently. The second row of seats can be electrically adjusted which still leaves the third row with plenty of legroom. The rear seats can also be folded down for added space.

There are four primary driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Off-Road which optimise the all-wheel-drive for unpaved roads, inclines and terrains.
Speaking about the launch, Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG said, “The EQS SUV is the third vehicle on our new all-electric platform. It has everything our customers love about the EQS – and combines this with the strengths and versatility of an SUV that can seat up to seven people. With the EQS SUV, we are continuing to consistently implement the strategy of making our vehicles more sustainable and digital – with the goal of building the most desirable electric cars in the world.”
