Weekends during the monsoon call for a lazy day in. If you’re through rewatching hits like the Marvel Universe and the Harry Potter series for the nth time, here are some of our favourites to binge-watch over the weekend.

One of the most hilarious film franchises of the early and mid-2000s, Big Momma’s House is a must-watch for anyone who loves a classic comedy. The series follows the story of an FBI agent Malcolm Turner, who disguises himself as an elderly woman named Hattie Mae Pierce, aka Big Momma, in order to make an arrest. While Big Momma was an incidental event for Malcolm in the first movie, the latter felt that Big Momma was a great disguise that helped him get in anywhere he wanted. And so came Big Momma’s House 2 and Big Momma’s: Like Father, Like Son.

Have you heard of the phrase “You can’t cheat death?” Well, everyone in the Final Destination series seems to believe they can, in fact, cheat death. The Final Destination series is a fan favourite, with a bunch of teenagers trying to escape their ill-willed fate. One of them, the gifted one, must unfortunately, live through the premonitions of each character’s death, warn them about it and watch them mock death, only to get slammed to the ground. Bloody and gore with bits of dark humour, Final Destination is a good watch for those who claim to be afraid of nothing!

One of the most popular but forgotten trilogies, Harold & Kumar is a classic entertainer, filled with ridiculous but hilarious plotlines. A perfect weekend binge, the movies centre two best friends and roommates, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel, who, through a series of plausible but ridiculous scenarios get into the most stuck-up situations, like getting high and deciding to travel across the country to eat some hamburgers at White Castle or getting mistaken for terrorists on a trip and getting deported to Guantanamo Bay. While each movie is fuelled by absurd scenarios, they are quite an entertainer, boosted by major guest appearances like Neil Patrick Harris.

The Indiana Jones franchise has been named one of the best movie franchises ever, and rightfully so. It is the perfect movie for those who love action, adventure and history albeit slightly altered, but fun nonetheless, with an exciting treasure trail. At the heart of the series is archaeology professor Dr Henry Walton ‘Indiana’ Jones, Jr who sets out on adventures around the world. The first movie Raiders of the Lost Ark is the hero of the franchise, in which Jones attempts to uncover rare artefacts while battling the Nazis, death cults and the wrath of God himself.
