Namrata Purohit on creating KYN & the future of activewear

Celebrity fitness entrepreneur Namrata Purohit has spent years shaping India’s wellness landscape, helping redefine Pilates while training some of the country’s biggest stars. Now, she is stepping into fashion with KYN, an athleisure label co-founded with Kanushee Garg that reflects her own relationship with movement, style and everyday dressing.

In this exclusive conversation with LuxeBook, Purohit talks about the inspiration behind KYN, why athleisure has become a lifestyle rather than a trend and what luxury means in today’s activewear market.

LuxeBook: Why did you see this as the right time to enter the premium athleisure market?

Namrata Purohit: I’ve spent over 15 years in the fitness industry, working with thousands of clients who were looking for activewear that could perform in the studio while still feeling elevated enough to wear all day. The market has matured, people are investing more in wellness, and it felt like the right time to build a brand that truly reflects that lifestyle.

LuxeBook: Why enter the premium athleisure space when it is already dominated by global brands?

Namrata Purohit: Competition validates the category, but there was still room for a brand built around the Indian consumer. We understand our climate, our body types, and how people actually move through their day. KYN isn’t trying to replicate global brands; it’s offering a premium perspective that’s more relevant to our market.

LuxeBook: What gap in the market did you identify that KYN is uniquely positioned to fill?

Namrata Purohit: I wanted to create premium activewear that delivers on performance, fit and style without compromise. KYN is designed by someone who has spent years in movement and understands what people genuinely need from their clothing, both in and outside the workout.

LuxeBook: How did you approach sourcing, manufacturing in India and quality control to create a premium product?

Namrata Purohit: My partner, Kanushee, has done all the hard work for this. From travelling to different parts of the world to find the right fabric to sampling different fabrics, fits and styles to get it right. We invested significant time in sourcing high-performance fabrics and refining every detail through extensive wear testing. I personally wore and washed everything for months before actually passing it and launching the brand.

LuxeBook: Beyond your personal brand, what is your long-term vision for KYN as a business?

Namrata Purohit: While my experience helped shape the brand, the vision is much bigger than me. KYN is inspired by the word KIN which means family, I want KYN to become a globally recognised premium activewear brand known for quality, innovation and community.

LuxeBook: How do you plan to differentiate KYN through product, pricing and brand positioning?

Namrata Purohit: Our focus is on premium quality, timeless design and versatility rather than chasing trends. We sit in the accessible luxury space, offering exceptional fabrics, thoughtful construction and elevated aesthetics that justify the price while remaining approachable for our audience.

LuxeBook: What does success look like for KYN over the next five years, both in India and internationally?

Namrata Purohit: In India, I want KYN to become one of the most trusted premium activewear brands. Internationally, the goal is to establish a presence in key global markets and demonstrate that an Indian brand can compete confidently on quality, design and innovation.

LuxeBook: Do you see KYN evolving beyond athleisure into a broader lifestyle brand?

Namrata Purohit: Absolutely. Athleisure is just the beginning. Over time, I see KYN evolving into a complete lifestyle brand centred around movement, wellness and modern living, expanding into new categories while staying true to our core philosophy of helping people feel confident, comfortable and empowered every day.

With KYN, Namrata Purohit isn’t simply adding another celebrity backed label to the athleisure landscape. She is translating years of lived experience into a brand that reflects how contemporary consumers actually dress. As luxury increasingly embraces functionality alongside craftsmanship, KYN enters the conversation with a quiet confidence that prioritises thoughtful design over fleeting trends.

Colour also plays a defining role within the collection. Instead of relying on predictable neutrals alone, KYN embraces expressive hues that add personality to functional dressing. Limited production runs and carefully curated drops further reinforce the label’s intention to create considered wardrobe staples rather than fast fashion.

Manufactured in India, the brand places equal emphasis on fit, fabric quality and finishing, reflecting a growing demand for premium homegrown labels that balance craftsmanship with everyday wearability. The name KYN itself draws inspiration from the idea of kinship, symbolising both the partnership between its founders and the sense of community they hope to foster through the brand.

For Purohit, whose influence extends well beyond fitness into wellness and conscious living, the launch feels like a natural evolution.

At a time when luxury increasingly embraces versatility, KYN enters the market with an understated proposition. Activewear that feels refined, expressive and adaptable, proving that modern dressing can move as effortlessly as the people wearing it.
