NYC’s most expensive penthouse of 2022

New York’s Manhattan locale is filled with some of the most glitzy and glamourous homes of the world. Right from duplex apartments to penthouse suites, Manhattan is home to the rich, quite literally. Among the many extravagant homes is one fancy penthouse, called the Jala Penthouse, which recently sold for a whopping USD 73.4 million, making it this year’s most expensive home in New York City.

The Jala penthouse is located inside a building owned by Swiss hospitality chain Aman. The building allegedly includes only a handful of condos, 22 to be exact, with a remainder of 83 rooms reserved for the hotel’s guests. While the penthouse has already been sold, the hotel is due to start operating by August this year. The Jala penthouse, according to Aman, will be the crown jewel of the new luxury hotel. Located within the historic Crown Building on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, Aman New York will pair the existing 1920s architecture with modern interiors and hotel-like amenities.
A palatial space
The existing penthouse spans the entire 20th floor, measuring just over 6,700 square feet. Inside this expansive space is a collection of four bedrooms, five baths and two powder rooms, along with an eat-in chef’s kitchen, a butler’s pantry, a formal dining room and a sprawling living room. Fitted with large windows throughout the house, Jala provides stunning, unparalleled views of the infamous Central Park.

The primary suite is one of the biggest highlights of this palatial home. It is fitted with not one but two walk-in wardrobes, and a spa-like en suite with a tub and steam shower.

Bringing luxury to the outdoors, the penthouse has two terraces, a private terrace adjoining the primary suite which has its own jacuzzi, and another wraparound terrace which has a private saltwater pool and a cabana.

High-end furnishing, artworks, statement furniture and decor, fireplaces, tall ceilings, and luxury appliances justify the USD 73.4 million price tag.

The revamped supertall, which was the first home of the Museum of Modern Art, will include a lounge with a piano bar, a private members’ club with a cigar lounge, three restaurants and one of Aman’s signature spas.
It appears the ‘urban sanctuary’ is quickly gaining in popularity, too. Another full-floor condo in Aman New York sold for $55 million back in December.

Although it was originally asking $83.5 million, the Jala penthouse has still managed to become the priciest sale in New York City in 2022. The previous record was set in April when a unit at 432 Park Avenue changed hands for $70.5 million.
