The coming of August is synonymous with festivities in India, and one of the most auspicious festivals of Kerala is Onam. This year the festival is being celebrated from August, 20 and will commence on August 31. A 10-day extravaganza, people are gearing up in full fervour for the harvest festival. Also known as Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam, this is a harvest festival that celebrates the return of King Mahabali/Maveli to his beloved state. But what adds to the festival is the tradition of the Onam Sadhya – a meal savoured by friends and family.
