IHCL takes Taj’s legendary hospitality to the Queen of the Hills with the opening of Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa in Darjeeling, West Bengal. This hotel is in partnership with the Ambuja Neotia Group.
The resort is perched in the picturesque Makaibari Tea Estate, which was founded in 1859 and is touted as one of the first tea factories in the world.
“IHCL with its pioneering spirit has put many destinations like Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala on the tourism map. We are delighted to step into another new destination in the East – Darjeeling. Taj Chia Kutir Resort is a welcome addition to our existing hotels in the magnificent Himalayas,” said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, The Indian Hotels Company, in a press statement.
A perfect hill-station getaway, Taj Chia Kutir covers an expansive 22 acres land. The 72-room property overlooks sun-kissed tea gardens, which follow a meandering terraced design, and sweeping views of the Himalayas. For an unwinding session, the Jiva spa offers its signature treatments and therapies, too.
Guests can dine at the hotel’s all-day diner The Chia Veranda and fine-dining restaurant Sonargaon that serves North-western and Bengali cuisines. Not to forget a delightful, authentic tea experience at its Makaibari Tea Lounge, which is a curated high-tea and tasting session with the in-house tea sommelier. The lounge is wrapped up in a magnificent all-glass façade, allowing guests a sensory pleasure of tasting tea concoctions as well as revel in the visuals of sprawling tea gardens.
Guests can enjoy plucking and tasting tea at the Makaibari Tea Estate or nature trails in the hills.
We look forward to bringing Taj’s legendary hospitality to the Queen of Hills,” said Jitendra Lote, General Manager, Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa, Darjeeling, in a press release.
