A flurry of grand Bollywood weddings took 2021 by storm. Not to be left behind, 2022 also kicked off with two weddings on the same weekend, that of Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar and the other of Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur. Both the lovebirds got hitched over the 19-20 February weekend.

Both brides and grooms looked gorgeous on their big days, Thakur wore a striped lehenga-choli in traditional red with gorgeous gold jewellery, while Massey wore a white sherwani and pastel pagdi. At the Akhtar-Dandekar wedding, Farhan chose a black tuxedo with a matching bow, while Dandekar wore a JADE by Monica and Karishma strapless red gown with a matching red veil for the wedding ceremony.

Dandekar uploaded an image of her bright red wedding heels on her Instagram story, captioned “Let’s do this.” The photo is of a pair of Aquazzura ‘The Love Link Sling’ stilettos. The shoes cost a pretty penny and are listed for US$1,095 or Rs. 81,500 on Aquazzura’s website. Made in Italy with a chain of hearts around the ankle, the name of the shoe and its styling speaks of love.

Anushka Sharma
The first bride in a line of Bollywood weddings that the internet pored over, Anushka Sharma got married to Virat Kohli in 2017. The actress wore a pale pink embroidered Sabyasachi lehenga with Shilpsutra ‘Pink Woodland’ juttis. The shoes were embellished with pink, magenta and turquoise flowers. Shilpsutra is a luxury brand started in 2015, with celebrity clients like Kangana Ranaut, Shilpa Shetty, Kriti Sanon, Sara Ali Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Neha Dhupia.
Deepika Padukone

Sabyasachi, who designed Deepika Padukone’s wedding looks, also created Ranveer-Deepika’s ceremony shoes. In collaboration with Christian Louboutin, the designer crafted bright red juttis with gold floral threadwork and zardozi for Ranveer Singh. Padukone’s bespoke juttis were a deeper shade of red with gold matte sequins and intricate detailing in the same shade. According to reports, the custom-made shoes are priced from Rs 50, 000 and can go up to Rs 2.3 lakh.
Priyanka Chopra-Jonas

Most big Bollywood brides donned Sabyasachi ensembles for their big day, Priyanka Chopra was no exception. She too wore a head-to-toe red Sabyasachi along with matching red slingbacks covered in the same fabric as her lehenga.
Like Deepika Padukone, her heels were designed by the one and only Christian Louboutin and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The red-soled shoes are a known favourite of Priyanka’s who is a close friend of Louboutin’s as well. The designer duo even made Nick Jonas’ shoes for the wedding, again in the same off-white shade as his sherwani. For their mehendi function, Jonas wore brocade shuttle shades designed by popular Indian brand, Fizzy Goblet that has long been a favourite of Sonam Kapoor. Named the “The Nick Special,” the shoes he wore were the first from the new and upcoming menswear collection exclusively designed for him by the brand.

Rhea Kapoor

The artistic Rhea Kapoor collaborated with homegrown footwear brand Cai to create a line that’s fashionably contemporary and comfortable. In a post the actress explained, “I’ve always struggled to find shoes that are traditional, comfortable and flattering for ethnic wear. So for my wedding, I designed a pair just the way I would like my shoes would be.” For her intimate ceremony with Karan Boolani, Kapoor wore “simple, beautiful, comfortable and versatile,” shoes, decorated with two large pearls near the toe, and a pearlescent bubble heel. Aptly named “Forever,” Kapoor will indeed remember the day she wore them forever. Falling in the affordable luxury category, the shoes cost Rs. 3,599 on Cai’s website.

Sonam Kapoor

The other Kapoor sister personalised her wedding look in a different way. Sonam Kapoor opted for Jimmy Choo’s made-to-order service to add a metal ‘A♡S’ to the soles of her shoes. For all her wedding festivities, the bride wore only flats, in Jimmy Choo classic designs, like red crystal-studded Lancer flats which she wore on her wedding day with bridal couture by Anuradha Vakil. According to Vogue, the bride wore Swarovski-studded pointy toe Attila flats, three-strap Naia sandals and the open-toed Granger flats with a crystal buckle. The well-known fashionista even paired these shoes with clutches from the same brand. The shoes are the pinnacle of luxury in footwear and start, sans customisation, in the range of Rs. 3 lakh.
