This Louis Vuitton x NBA menswear capsule redefines fashion as we know it

In the international fashion circuit, only a few designers have truly been able to make a lasting mark in streetwear and athleisure. Virgil Abloh is one of them. Founder of Off-White (2013) and Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton (since 2018), he has mastered the art of creating upbeat and sophisticated design for men.
His latest launch of LV x NBA capsule proves this yet again. This is the first-of-its-kind Spring-Summer 2021 menswear edit from Louis Vuitton’s three-year long partnership with the National Basketball Association, which was announced in January this year.

Through this deal, the French Maison also became NBA’s first-ever official Trophy Travel Case provider, which displays the legendary Larry O’Brien Trophy awarded to the winning team, every year since 1977.

Coming back to the LV x NBA launch, it’s not just clothing, but a whole range of jewellery, bags and shoes offered in the limited-edition capsule. What would a basketball player’s wardrobe consist of? – this is Abloh’s inspiration for the collection, with ‘travels and transits’, ‘game arrivals’ and ‘press conference’ as the three main dress codes.
Think grey cashmere tracksuit, a blue hooded leather jacket, monogram jeans, T-shirts, dress shirts and dapper suits. Across the entire collection, the chic houndstooth pattern remains at the fore, highlighting its evergreen trend in men’s clothing.
The footwear range has classic loafers, derbies, slip-ons and leather boots, while jewellery includes bracelets and pendants glazed with premium golden finish and a dangling mini NBA emblem.
The iconic logos of the two institutions play an important role in making this entire collection a huge hit among fashion connoisseurs. Abloh has adeptly married the famous NBA logo with the iconic LV monogram on every apparel and accessory in this collection.
The LV x NBA range will be available in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide from 20 November.
