Where to Indulge in Strawberry Specials Across Mumbai
Did you know strawberries aren’t technically berries at all? Botany insists they’re ‘aggregate accessory fruits while bananas and avocados are the real berries. But winter in Mumbai isn’t interested in scientific identity. It just wants an excuse for sugar dusted red fruit, warm chocolate, and limited time festive menus. And the city’s favourite cafés are delivering this aphrodisiac in a variety of variations.
As December settles in with its fleeting nip in the air, strawberries are showing up everywhere from brioche to bombolini, pancakes to pastries.
Zane’s Cafe

Zane’s Cafe & Pet Spa is a specialty coffee destination and cozy community spot for coffee lovers and pet parents alike. With Christmas season kicking in, Zane’s invites guests to discover its holiday menu where winter flavours meet strawberry accents and slow sipping comfort. Inside this pet friendly space, festive dishes unfold across small plates, mains, desserts and handcrafted beverages. Diners can begin with Rosemary & Thyme Potatoes or a Citrusy Beetroot Salad before diving into Winter Berry Pancakes or Crimson Chicken. Bluebop Bakes presents Strawberry Snow Bombolini which are Italian style filled doughnuts dusted in icing sugar, and moist Strawberry Cupcakes with cloud light frosting. These make for perfect gifting or sharing.

Classic European desserts take center stage at Gaylord. Diners can choose a buttery Strawberry Tart, layered Strawberry Cake or airy Strawberry Pastry filled with fresh cream.

Strawberry Pistachio Olive Oil Petit

Ingredients
Pistachio Olive Oil Sponge
All-purpose flour – 150 g
Finely ground pistachio – 60 g
Baking powder – 1½ tsp
Baking soda – ¼ tsp
Salt – ¼ tsp
Eggs – 3 (room temperature)
Caster sugar – 150 g
Extra virgin olive oil (light, fruity) – 120 ml
Milk or buttermilk – 120 ml
Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
Lemon zest – 1 tsp
Strawberry Compote (Filling)
Fresh strawberries (chopped) – 200 g
Sugar – 40 g
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
Cornflour – 1 tsp + 1 tbsp water
Pistachio Cream / Whipped Ganache (for layering)
Option 1 (Light & Fresh – recommended):
- Whipping cream – 300 ml
- White chocolate – 120 g
- Pistachio paste – 2 tbsp
Heat cream, pour over chocolate + pistachio paste, blend smooth. Chill 6 hours, then whip.

Topping
- Fresh strawberries (halved or sliced)
- Pistachio dust
- Optional: edible gold leaf
Method
- Bake the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 170°C.
- Grease and line a 6–7 inch round tin.
- Sift flour, pistachio powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Whisk eggs and sugar until pale.
- Slowly whisk in olive oil.
- Add milk, vanilla, and lemon zest.
- Fold in dry ingredients gently.
- Pour into tin and bake for 40–45 minutes or until the skewer comes out clean.
- Cool completely and slice into 2 layers.
Assemble
Place the first sponge layer.
Pipe pistachio cream around the edge (dam).
Fill the center with strawberry compote.
Place a second layer.
Lightly coat sides with pistachio cream.
Decor & Finish
- Wrap sides with pistachio chocolate sticks / biscuit sticks
- Tie with ribbon
- Top generously with fresh strawberries
- Finish with pistachio dust and gold leaf
