On the glamorous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, A-listers wore their best in celebration of America, the theme for the year. Inspired by the Costume Institute’s newest exhibition, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which opens to the public on September 18.

Anna Wintour, honorary chairman of the Met Gala represented the florals of spring, in Oscar de la Renta. Wintour wore a custom pressed flower cotton poplin gown with a V neckline and tiered pleated skirt.
Billie Eilish

Another Oscar de la Renta design was worn by Billie Eilish. The co-chair of the Met Gala exuded old Hollywood glamour in a custom tulle corset gown that cascaded into a blush ombré skirt and train. Adding shimmer to her outfit are Cartier High Jewelry earrings with diamonds, set in platinum.

For her Met debut, Camila Cabello shines in a monochrome purple look by Michael Kors. Posing with her beau Shawn Mendes, who looks ready to rock in a leather getup, also by Michael Kors.
Dan Levy

Levy donned a meaningful outfit by Loewe for the gala. Replicating American multimedia artist and LGBTQIA+ activist, David Wojnarovicz’s (1954-1992), an image of two men kissing from called ‘Fuck You Faggot Fucker,’ Levy celebrated queer love as well as a Wojnarovicz, an important American voice.

The model looked elegant in a white column dress with a thigh-high leg slit in the back by Prada. Hadid completed the look with leather gloves and a high ponytail.

In complete contrast to her sister, Kendall Jenner takes to the red carpet in a see-through Givenchy gown. The look is inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s dress in My Fair Lady and included the same jewel-embellished sleeves and a choker.

Lil Nas X portrayed a story through fashion in a three-part LGBTQ+ American fairytale. He arrived on the red carpet in a regal cape, concealing one’s true self, then shed it to reveal a shining gold Medusa-adorned armour. The armour signified protection from the prejudices faced as a Black, queer person. The final reveal was a skin-tight bodysuit representing an unguarded version of the rapper.

As a gift to us all, Lili Reinhardt attended the MET Gala on her birthday. She wore a gown embroidered with all 50 State flowers by Christian Siriano.

The American Olympic athlete wears custom AREA Couture x Athleta custom at the 75th Met Gala. The massive silver train allegedly had to be carried up the steps by a team of six men and weighed a startling 88 pounds.
