Amrut Whisky titled “World’s Best” with 5 gold medals

In a triumphant affirmation of India’s growing prowess in the global spirits arena, Amrut Distilleries has once again proven its mettle by securing five gold medals at the prestigious International Spirits Challenge (ISC) 2024 in London. This remarkable feat in the “World Whisky Category” underscores Amrut’s position at the zenith of whisky excellence, further solidifying its reputation as a premier producer of luxury spirits.

A Historic Achievement

The 29th edition of the ISC witnessed an impressive array of entries from renowned whisky-producing nations, including Scotland, Ireland, and Japan. Amidst this stiff competition, Amrut Distilleries showcased its unparalleled craftsmanship, innovation, and uniqueness, earning a record-breaking five gold medals—a first for any Indian distillery. This accomplishment is not just a win for Amrut but a significant milestone for Indian whisky on the global stage.

The Crowning Jewel: Amrut Fusion

Leading the charge was the much-celebrated Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky, which has garnered over 40 accolades worldwide. Fusion’s intricate and rich profile earned it the prestigious gold medal and a spot in the trophy category. Esteemed by whisky connoisseurs, Fusion is often hailed as the “Crown Jewel” of Indian single malts, epitomising the exceptional quality and artistry that Amrut Distilleries is known for.

The tasting notes for Amrut Fusion reveal a heavy, complex nose with thick oak and intriguing barley-sugar notes, all wrapped in a soft smoky layer that is both big and seductively gentle. On the palate, the whisky starts with a controlled delivery but quickly becomes massive, as the initial smoke transforms into full-blown warming peat. This is complemented by a hint of sherry trifle, despite no sherry casks being used, with oaky vanilla custard emphasising the barley-fruitiness. The flavours then intensify into a rich chocolate fudge center, resonating throughout the palate. The finish sees a slightly dry peat and oak mouthfeel, balanced by enough molasses sweetness to carry the malt to a satisfying conclusion. Spices rise up, guiding the whisky to a remarkable finish.

The Golden Lineup

In addition to Fusion, Amrut Distilleries’ portfolio of award-winning whiskies at the ISC 2024 included:

Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky
Amrut Amalgam Malt Whisky
Amrut Nativity Indian Single Malt Whisky – Travel Retail Exclusive
Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky Cask Strength
Amrut Peated Single Malt Whisky

These gold medals not only highlight the diversity and excellence within Amrut’s range but also showcase the distillery’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of whisky production.
