If you’re an art connoisseur or love vintage objects that tell a story, listen up. Well known art platform Art for Concern’s Quintessential Fundraiser is taking place from October 11-13 at the AstaGuru Gallery in Mumbai. It is the perfect space to collect all things timeless and classic, quirky and quaint. The fundraiser will present a selection of curated pieces, both heritage and contemporary, focusing on pieces that have an interesting story behind them and capture the essence of a bygone era. Items on auction include antique Persian abshari carpets, Burjasta carpets from Afghanistan, bronze and brass figurines, silver handicrafts from Kashmir, Lahore and Kutch, oleographs by well-known artists, theyyam masks and more.
Art with a story
Presented by Art for Concern and organized by Secure Giving, the theme for this year’s fundraiser is ‘Stories to be retold’. The fundraiser is slated to take place in Mumbai at the popular auction house AstaGuru in Kala Ghoda. The purpose behind Quintessential is to promote the living traditions of India and the world.
A selection of furniture, artefacts, weaves, embroideries, design and architecture, engravings and calligraphy make up the collection. Some of the celebratory pieces include a selection of antique chests, lamps, rugs, occasional furniture and home accents, all of which weave a narrative of the years gone by. With this initiative, Secure Giving brings into focus pre-owned, pre-loved and beautifully-aged pieces that will add to the conversation as each vintage item has ‘a story to tell’. Each piece present at the event shares a story across generations, giving them the opportunity to own a piece of these traditions.
Art for Concern
Like Quintessential, Art for Concern has organised many art events to raise funds for various NGO projects spanning areas like education, health, community development, women empowerment, Covid relief and rehabilitation among others. The platform was initiated by Concern India Foundation in 1998 to promote Indian art and create a platform for upcoming artists to showcase their work, while providing the perfect opportunity to art connoisseurs to buy works of upcoming artists. What makes Art for Concern stand out is that their exhibitions display the work of both established and promising artists, and at affordable prices, making it an excellent platform for upcoming artists to showcase their work while giving art enthusiasts an opportunity to build their collections, all the while giving to charity.
